3.14.1 U̲s̲e̲
The user can sign-off by pressing the SYSTEM key and
then enter the command SIOF.
When the VDU terminal is returned to unattended operation,
the time at which the unattended operation commenced,
will be displayed.
This is in the same format as the time presented on
the top right hand corner of the header.
When the terminal is showing this display then the
user may try to recommence attended operation by using
the SION command.
3.14.2 S̲e̲c̲u̲r̲i̲t̲y̲ ̲F̲e̲a̲t̲u̲r̲e̲s̲
Turning the key to the off position will cause the
contents of the screen to become blank and the device
storage to be erased.
The use of SIOF causes the VDU memory to be erased
prior to output of the unattended operation format.
Fig. 3.14-2
3.15 S̲E̲C̲U̲R̲I̲T̲Y̲ ̲P̲R̲O̲C̲E̲D̲U̲R̲E̲S̲
Two security procedures will be performed during the
user transactions.
These are:
- Security Interrogation
- Security Warning
The security procedures are performed via the system
line in the status header.
3.15.1 S̲e̲c̲u̲r̲i̲t̲y̲ ̲I̲n̲t̲e̲r̲r̲o̲g̲a̲t̲i̲o̲n̲
Security Interrogation is employed to ensure that a
message preparation, release, or distribution terminal
is manned by an operator who is permitted to receive
classified messages.
The interrogation will be performed by the system which
outputs a request in the system line. The user is then
required to enter his password also in the system line.
3.15.1.1 P̲a̲s̲s̲w̲o̲r̲d̲
Password is a eight letter code. It will be displayed
on the VDU screen as "blank" characters.
3.15.1.2 V̲a̲l̲i̲d̲a̲t̲i̲o̲n̲
If the password is correct, then the system shall respond
with response message "ACCEPTED".
If the password is wrong the system shall output error
code 1.
If after three attempts a valid entry is not made or
a reply is not made within 3 minutes the system shall
automatically sign off the user and block the terminal.
3.15.2 S̲e̲c̲u̲r̲i̲t̲y̲ ̲W̲a̲r̲n̲i̲n̲g̲
This procedure is initiated by the system before display
of information of certain security classification or
above, or belonging to the special handling category
as specified by the supervisor.
The security warning will be performed by displaying
a warning message of up to 500 characters. The message
will be displayed in the display area. After the warning
message the user is required to enter a security code
in the system line.
3.15.2.1 S̲e̲c̲u̲r̲i̲t̲y̲ ̲C̲o̲d̲e̲
Security code is a five letter code. The code to be
used shall be as specified by the supervisor. It will
be displayed on the VDU screen as "blank" characters.
3.15.2.2 V̲a̲l̲i̲d̲a̲t̲i̲o̲n̲
If the security code is correct the system shall display
the classified information.
If the entry is invalid the system shall output error
code 1.
If after 3 attempts a valid entry is not made or a
reply is not made within 3 minutes the system shall
automatically sign off the user and block the terminal.
4̲ ̲ ̲D̲I̲S̲P̲L̲A̲Y̲ ̲F̲O̲R̲M̲A̲T̲S̲
4.1 G̲E̲N̲E̲R̲A̲L̲
The display formats are the formats used in RECEIVE
MODE and in RESPONSE MODE.
The following formats are queued in the receive queue
and are accessible in the receive mode:
- COORDINATION, OUTGOING MESSAGE PRESENTATION, RELEASE
- INCOMING MESSAGE PRESENTATION
- COMMENT PRESENTATION
The following formats are queued in the response queue
and are accessible in the response mode:
- NOTIFICATION OF RELEASE
- NOTIFICATION OF DELETION
- NOTIFICATION OF APPEND (off-line append)
- RETRIEVED MESSAGE from off-line database
4.1.1 U̲s̲e̲ ̲o̲f̲ ̲R̲e̲c̲e̲i̲v̲e̲ ̲M̲o̲d̲e̲
Items incoming to a CAMPS VDU are ordered by precedence
in order of arrival. On entering the command RECV (precedence)
the terminal enters the receive mode. The parameter
of the command allows the user to select which precedence
level queue he wishes to view. If no precedence is
specified the highest precedence queue is automatically
presented.
The user automatically receives the item on the head
of the queue. After reading the item displayed his
actions may be as follows:
- PRINT out the item in full on the logically associated
printer by using the PRINT command. This removes
the item from the VDU queue.
If the associated printer has not got an appropriate
classification response message 36 is returned.
- STEP OVER the item in queue hence deferring action
on it by using the KEEP AND PRESENT MESSAGE command.
It is not removed from queue and the next message
is presented. Messages of FLASH precedence is always
deleted from the queue when they have been displayed
on the screen
- EXIT the receive mode by using the command RETURN
TO CURRENT MENU. The item is not removed from the
queue
- EXIT the receive mode by using the command CANCEL.
The item is removed from the queue
- DELETE the item from the queue and present the
next item by using the DELETE AND PRESENT command
- ENTER the command RECV (precedence) to start viewing
a queue of different precedence
When the user has viewed all the items on a precedence
level the system will automatically present the first
item on the next lowest precedence level. The user
may also choose to look at different precedence levels
using a command.
If no item is found response message no. 29 is returned.
4.1.2 U̲s̲e̲ ̲o̲f̲ ̲R̲e̲s̲p̲o̲n̲s̲e̲ ̲M̲o̲d̲e̲
On entering the command RESP the terminal enters the
response mode. The user automatically receives the
item on the head of the queue. The action to be taken
after the item has been displayed may be as follows:
- PRINT
- KEEP AND PRESENT NEXT MESSAGE
- EXIT
- DELETE AND PRESENT NEXT MESSAGE
The actions listed are the same as listed in section
4.1.1.
4.1.3 L̲i̲n̲e̲ ̲N̲u̲m̲b̲e̲r̲i̲n̲g̲ ̲o̲f̲ ̲T̲e̲x̲t̲
When display formats are displayed on the VDU screen
then each line in the text position of the display
format shall be preceded with a line number. The first
line in the text shall have number 1. The following
lines shall have a number equal to the number of the
previous line plus one.
4.1.4 S̲e̲c̲u̲r̲i̲t̲y̲ ̲I̲n̲t̲e̲r̲r̲o̲g̲a̲t̲i̲o̲n̲
If a message of classification higher than that authorised
for immediate display/print is presented, then the
security interrogation and warning sequence shall be
entered. Only on successful completion of the security
procedures will the print-out and/or display of the
message take place. The warnings will only be displayed
on a VDU position.

device. Items may be queued for the device on command
from the VDU.
It may also serve as the sole output device for a set
of Staff Cells which are not represented by a VDU on
the system.
