3.2 P̲A̲G̲E̲ ̲N̲U̲M̲B̲E̲R̲I̲N̲G̲
3.2.1 S̲m̲a̲l̲l̲ ̲D̲o̲c̲u̲m̲e̲n̲t̲s̲
Small documents, i.e. documents originally not exceeding 8 pages, shall be page numbered
consecutively with front page as page 1, revision record as page 2 and so on.
3.2.2 M̲e̲d̲i̲u̲m̲ ̲s̲i̲z̲e̲ ̲t̲h̲r̲u̲g̲h̲ ̲l̲a̲r̲g̲e̲ ̲d̲o̲c̲u̲m̲e̲n̲t̲s̲
Documents originally exceeding 8 pages `shall be page numbered according to the following
rules:
3.2.2.1 A̲u̲x̲i̲l̲i̲a̲r̲y̲ ̲P̲a̲g̲e̲s̲
Auxiliary pages, i.e. front page, revision records, and table of contents, are numbered
by roman numrals written as lower case letters
i, ii, iii, iv, etc.
3.2.2.2 O̲r̲d̲i̲n̲a̲r̲y̲ ̲t̲e̲x̲t̲ ̲p̲a̲g̲e̲s̲
Page numbers of ordinary text pages are divided in two parts separated by a period.
To the left of the period is used the chapter number.
Within each chaper the pages are numbered consecutively with an integer t the right
of the period.
3.2.3 A̲m̲e̲n̲d̲m̲e̲n̲t̲s̲
a) When a document is revised resulting in an increase in the number of pages, this
cannot be added to the end of a chapter (or the entire docuent in case of small
documents) new pages shall be inserted in their proper place and numbered by lower
case letters in addtion to the number of the preceding page.
If, for instance, 2 new pages shall be added between pages 7 and 8, the resultin
numbering shall be:
original page 7 new page 7a
first additional page - 7b
second additional page - 7c
b) When a document is revised resulting in a decrease in the number of pages that
cannot be removed from he end of a chapter (or the entire document in case of
small documents) a page shall be inserted with the original page number and the
following text in the middle of the page:
THIS PAGE INTENTIONALLY LEFT BLANK
If several consecutive pages ae removed, one page may be used to serve this purpose,
numbered with the first and last page number of the removed pages.
The above instructions for amendments of page numbering apply to revisions carried
out by distributing only a number of thepages of which a document exists. When
a document is thoroughly revised and distributed as a completely new issue, the
page nu`mbering shall be completely revised in accordance with the rules put down
in par 3.2.1 and 3.2.2.
3.2.4 R̲e̲f̲e̲r̲e̲n̲c̲e̲s̲
s a consequence of the amendment rules laid down in par 3.2.3 any reference to a
page number shall be avoided within a document or between documents.
(one deviation is that revision record and table of contents refer to the page numbers).
Refernce to a certain part of text thus must be done by chapter, section, etc. number.
Hence, if a text entity should be omitted, its index number should be retained and
the text replaced by "This chapter (section,....) omitted by revision No. X of (d
