PRODUCTION OF OPTO-MODEMS AT CR-CARD
…02……02…CAMPS
1. An optical data-link shall be developed and produced
for the CAMPS program.
2. Optical modem, design note (document no: CPS/TCN/020)
specifies requirements and design (ref a). Comments
to ref. a.
- Sect. 3.1: to be included:
Humidity: 40 - 90% relative humidity, non-condensing
- Sect. 6: The first two positions indicate two alternative
transmitters. The first is used for short distance
transmission and the second for long distance transmission.
It is a design aim to eliminate the need for two
types. For recent proposals, however, the split
on the two types shall be as indicated; 90% of
the channels are for short distances and 10% are
for long distances.
3. An optical Data link channel includes:
3.1 A CAMAC-module to be placed in the computer (ref. a,
sect. 5) (OBS: The CAMAC-version specified contains
2 channels)
3.2 An EUROCARD-module to be placed in the remote end,
eg. built into a data terminal. (OBS 1 channel per
module).
3.3 A dual opto-cable will perform the light-transmission
between the modules. The opto-cable is in principle
run unbroken.
4. Work and responsibilities are suggested to be shared
according to the following principles:
4.1 A development team is established at SD/CR A/S. This
team is responsible for the design of the opto-modem
modules to the level, where they are ready for production.
4.2 Production is performed and governed by CR CARD. Production
includes component procurement, module assembly and
production verification.
4.3 Responsibilities are divided as follows:
…01…RESPONSIBILITY
Development Production

Design X
Production documentation X
Series 0, component delivery X
Series 0, production X
Series 0, Qualification X

4.4 A schedule for development and delivery is attached.
1 channel = 1/2 CAMAC-module + 1/1 EUROCARD-module
The total amount of channels required is 535 (spares
not included). Delivery time, see the lines 3, 7, 8,
9, 10, 11 of the schedule.
The lines 4 and 5 of the schedule cover series-0-test.
Line 4 covers the verification of the functional and
environmental requirements.
Line 5 covers the mounting of the EUROCARD-version
into the terminal(s) and test of the Electromagnetic
radiation.
This test will be performed in the USA.
To ensure that minimum problems arise from the radiation
test, the diagram will be forwarded to the testing
authority for analysis.
The production release of line 6 indicates the final
and total release.
