ADAPTOR CRATES FOR CU AND WDPU
…02……02…CAMPS
1. I̲N̲T̲R̲O̲D̲U̲C̲T̲I̲O̲N̲
In this ECP, it is proposed to change the design of:
a) The DATA EXCHANGE CHANNEL (DEC), category 4 and
5. Current design is described in CPS/SDS/001,
section 5.3.2.4 and 5.3.2.5.
b) The channels for the VDU and LINE PRINTER of the
operator position. Current design is described
in CPS/SDS/001, section 5.4.
The changed configurations are shown on fig. 1 and
2.
In the changed design, the same TDX/ADAPTER CRATE is
used for mounting of Adapters/OPTO TRANCEIVERS throughout
CAMPS (including CAMPS REMOTE TERMINALS).
Until this change, the V24/V28(L) - adapter has been
a 4-channel module (see fig. 4) supporting 4 low/medium
speed channels each containing 5 CCITT, V24 circuits.
In order to support the high speed channels of DEC
4 and 5, a new version (Version 2) has been defined.
Thus, 2 V24/V28(L) adapter modules are included in
the changed configuration:
a) V24/V28(L) Adapter 1 - module (4 channels)
b) V24/V28(L) Adapter 2 - module (1 channel)
The V24/V28(L) Adapter 2 module supports one high
speed channel containing 11 CCITT, V24 circuits.
The Figs. 5 and 6 show the possible combinations of
configuration of the TDS/ADAPTER CRATE using the Opto
tranceiver modules and the V24/V28(L) Adapter 1 and
2 modules.

5.1.1 D̲a̲t̲a̲ ̲E̲x̲c̲h̲a̲n̲g̲e̲ ̲C̲h̲a̲n̲n̲e̲l̲ ̲(̲D̲E̲C̲)̲,̲ ̲C̲a̲t̲e̲g̲o̲r̲y̲ ̲4̲ ̲a̲n̲d̲ ̲5̲
Fig. 1 shows the proposed configuration of the DECs,
cat. 4 and 5 of each CAMPS MAIN SITE Equipment. The
channels included are the equipped channels of each
site, i.e. the channels where the LTUs are mounted.
5.1.1.1 L̲I̲A̲-̲N̲
The LIA-N module is a D-rear crate module carrying
V24 standard connectors on the front panel (accessed
at the rear end of the crate).
5.1.1.2 A̲d̲a̲p̲t̲e̲r̲ ̲C̲r̲a̲t̲e̲
The Adapter crate is identical with the TDX Crate.
One crate supports up to 8 channels. Fig. 3 shows
the principle. The BACK PANEL is mounted at the rear
side of the crate and is connected to the Motherboard
of the crate in the same position as the LTUX-S-module,
but from the rear. The LTUX-S-module is not mounted
in this application. Three different modules are possible
in the adapter positions.
a) V̲2̲4̲/̲V̲2̲8̲(̲L̲)̲ ̲A̲d̲a̲p̲t̲e̲r̲ ̲1̲.̲
This module is not included in the configuration
shown on fig. 1. The module is used for Low/Medium
speed channels supported by the LTUX-S's.

for connection of external cable.
c) O̲p̲t̲o̲ ̲T̲r̲a̲n̲s̲c̲e̲i̲v̲e̲r̲ ̲(̲O̲M̲D̲T̲)̲
This module is not included in the configuration
shown on fig. 1.
Characteristics:
1) Number of channels per module: 1.
2) Mechanical Dimensions:
Height: 221.5 mm (5u)
Width: 17.1 mm (1m)
Length: 305.0 mm
3) Front Panel:
Two fibre-optic connectors are placed on the
front panel for connection of one (dual) fibre-optic
cable.
The V24/V28(L) Adapter converts the standard CCITT
V24/V28 signal levels to low level V24/V28 (V24/V28(L))
signals and vice versa. These low level signals conform
CPS/210/SYS/0001 paragraph 3.4.5.1.
The V24/V28(L) Adapter is a standard CR80S module.
The front panel holds CANNON plugs for connecting
cables between the module and the V24 Filter Assy.
A cable length per channel of approx. 15 m. (50 ft)
can be driven by the adapter modules.
Figs. 4, 5 and 6 show the possible combinations of
the adapters.
As shown on fig. 3, a separate Adapter Power Supply
is mounted for supplying power to the adapters.
5.1.2 O̲p̲e̲r̲a̲t̲o̲r̲ ̲P̲o̲s̲i̲t̲i̲o̲n̲ ̲I̲n̲t̲e̲r̲c̲o̲n̲n̲e̲c̲t̲i̲o̲n̲
Fig. 2 shows the proposed configuration of the interconnections
from the Watchdog PU to the operator position terminals.
The proposed configuration includes, that 2 channels
of the Adapter crate (section 5.1.1.2) are used for
interconnection to the operator VDU/LINE PRINTER.
The two terminals are connected by opto-links.
5.1.3 R̲a̲c̲k̲ ̲C̲o̲n̲f̲i̲g̲u̲r̲a̲t̲i̲o̲n̲
Fig. 8 shows the proposed configuration.
The crates identified on fig. 1 and 2 are placed in
rack B and C.
