1. The impacts of exchanging CDC disks with Hewlett-Packard
7925 H has been investigated. Some questions have
not yet been answered by Hewlett-Packard.
1.1 Specifications of 7925 H
Power: 220V (240V) + 5%/- 10%
50 Hz +32%/- 5%
Comment: Specs are not compliant with CAMPS
requirement.
1) Size of 1 HP7925 H:
Height: 82,5 cm., width: 50 cm.
Depth: 81,3 cm., not 19 inches rack mountable.
Comment: Volume is greater than volume of
CDC/SMD9762 + stabilizer unit as
ECP
0004.
1.2 Interfacing 7925H with CR-computers. 7925 interfaces
an IEEE-bus. An interface module to the CR80 I/O-Bus
must be developed and SW for handling the interface
must be developed as well.
Development costs:
Hardware: 1.000.000 d.kr.
Software: 1.000.000 d.kr.
1.3 Cost impact of HP7925 H.
Exchanging CDC disks with HP7925 H at 16 sites
will increase costs with approximately 5.000.000
d.kr.
1.4 The above results of investigations are preliminary.
SHAPE CR ask for SHAPE's opinion on continuing the investigations.
2. CDC has been asked for impact of frequency fluctuations.
Some field test results are available, but further
tests must be specified and conducted to cover
CAMPS specifications. CDC is willing to perform
field tests on samples from production line, but
are not able to perform factory testing for frequency
variation impact. Additional tests shall be performed
on systems composed by CR80-controller and CDC
disk drives.
Cost impact: Tests are needed to support the
spe-
cifications of graceful degradation.
Comment: CR is willing to give a proposal
for
SHAPE the tests. The test requirements
should be discussed CR/SHAPE.
CR
asks for SHAPE opinion.
3. Informations on the actual configuration and the
CDC/SMD9762 disks:
3.1 Start-up current consumption is shown on the curve
of appendix.
Initial peak current is not shown. When rating
Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) based on Static
inverters, the compatibility of the UPS-design
with the disk system should be checked carefully.
An increase in the UPS-power rating with a factor
three to the start-up power may be necessary.
3.2 If disk drives are powered from separate power
inputs, these power inputs require separate filtering.
Alternative solutions:
a) Filters may be supplied by CR included in the
MAIN SITE racks.
Cost impact: See ECP 004, sect. 2.3.
b) The sufficient filtered power is supplied by
SHAPE.
3.3 In the recent system, no automatic power start-up
procedures are included. This is applicable for
the disk drives as well.
3.4 Susceptibility of CDC SMD 9762 to shock and vibration
is given in the appendix. The specs of the alternative
unit supplied by AMPEX is attached as well.
