This is a format including system/operator interaction.
The protocol is described below. Reference should also
be made to Figs. 12a and 12b.
12.1 F̲O̲R̲M̲A̲T̲ ̲L̲I̲N̲E̲ ̲A̲
ec(cr)(EOL)
This is entered by the operator. When the terminal
is in the rest mode, the system shall respond to the
above sequence by conditioning itself to follow the
protocol for comment editing embodied in this format.
2.2 F̲O̲R̲M̲A̲T̲ ̲L̲I̲N̲E̲ ̲B̲
(V1)(sp)(V2)(EOL)
The system shall transmit this format line with variable
fields V1 and V2 as described in Section 2.2 and referring
to the transaction in course.
12.3 F̲O̲R̲M̲A̲T̲ ̲L̲I̲N̲E̲ ̲C̲
YOUR(sp)REF(sp)(v3)(cr)(EOL)
The sysem shall output the first part of this format
and await the entry of v3 by the operator. The composition
of v3 will be as described in Section 2.2.1.1, and
it will be the reference number of the "comment" which
the operator wishes to "edit". The reponse of the system
shall be one of the following appropriate to the circumstances.
12.3.1 V̲a̲l̲i̲d̲ ̲E̲n̲t̲r̲y̲
If the serial number refers to a comment stored in
the system, the preparation of which has been completed
and is available for editing at that preparation postion,
the procedure shall continue with format line I.
12.3.2 I̲n̲v̲a̲l̲i̲d̲ ̲E̲n̲t̲r̲y̲
If the entry is not of a valid form, the procedure
shall continue with a default sequence: The system
transmitting format line D and awaiting a new entry
for v3. If thee successive invalid entries occur the
system shall transmit from format line E and Q and
return to rest mode. No further action shall be taken
with respect to the editing procedure, except that
an entry shall be made in the system log.
12.3.3 o̲n̲-̲e̲x̲i̲s̲t̲e̲n̲t̲ ̲C̲o̲m̲m̲e̲n̲t̲
If the entry is valid in form but does not correspond
to a comment stored in the central equipment, the procedure
shall continue with the default sequence described
above, but with format line F1 instead for format line
D. A dfault log entry is required.
12.3.4 N̲o̲t̲ ̲A̲v̲a̲i̲l̲a̲b̲l̲e̲ ̲a̲t̲ ̲t̲h̲i̲s̲ ̲T̲e̲r̲m̲i̲n̲a̲l̲
If the entry is valid, but refers to a comment which
has not been originated from that terminal, the procedure
shall continue with format line F2 and format line
Q and return t rest mode with respect to that terminal.
An entry shall be made in the system log.
12.3.5 C̲o̲m̲m̲e̲n̲t̲ ̲h̲a̲s̲ ̲b̲e̲e̲n̲ ̲T̲r̲a̲n̲s̲m̲i̲t̲t̲e̲d̲
Once a comment has been transmitted, no further changes
can be made and it will be moved from the storage.
In these circumstances, the procedue shall continue
with the sequence format line H and format line Q.
The variable V4 shall be composed as described in Section
2.2.1.2 and shall be the time of release of the message.
The system shall return to rest mode with respect to
that termina, and an entry shall be made in the system
log.
12.3.6 C̲o̲m̲m̲e̲n̲t̲ ̲P̲r̲e̲p̲a̲r̲a̲t̲i̲o̲n̲ ̲n̲o̲t̲ ̲C̲o̲m̲p̲l̲e̲t̲e̲
If the comment referred to has not been completely
prepared (e.g. if the procedure under Format G1 has
been suspended by a higher precedence transaction th
system shall transmit format line R and recommence
Format G1 at the point at which interruption took place
if this was in a format line associated with the input
of text, otherwise with the format line following the
last complete format line. Whenstarting in "text" the
last line entered during the previous preparation or
editing procedure shall be printed out and the terminal
device shall be conditioned so that if a printing character
is entered from the keyboard it shall be printed/displayd
in the position immediately following the last character
of the previous entry.
12.4 F̲o̲r̲m̲a̲t̲ ̲l̲i̲n̲e̲ ̲I̲
CLEAN?(sp)COPY?(sp)(r)(cr)(EOL)
The system shall transmit the appropriate part of the
format line and await the response of the operator.
12.4.1 r̲ ̲-̲ ̲y̲e̲s̲ ̲o̲r̲ ̲n̲o̲
If the response is yes the procedure shall continue
either:
- with a format line K, if the comment is classified
to a level specified by the supervisor for that
position or higher, also if it belongs to the special
handling categories (as pecified by the supervisor
for that position), and if the sequence starting
with format line K has not already been entered
during this editing procedure.
- or otherwise by transmitting the comment as described
in Section 10.6.1 and continuing wth format line
O.
If the response is no, the procedure shall continue
with format line O.
12.4.2 D̲e̲f̲a̲u̲l̲t̲ ̲S̲e̲q̲u̲e̲n̲c̲e̲
If a valid response is not obtained, the system shall
output format line J and wait for further entry by
the operator. If a vald entry is not received after
five attempts, the system shall transmit format lines
E and Q and terminate the procedure and return to rest
mode with respect to the terminal. No further action
shall be taken with respect to the procedure so terminaed;
except an entry shall be made in the system log.
12.5 F̲o̲r̲m̲a̲t̲ ̲l̲i̲n̲e̲s̲ ̲K̲,̲ ̲L̲,̲ ̲M̲,̲ ̲D̲ ̲a̲n̲d̲ ̲N̲
These format lines constitute the security interrogation
sequence which is used when a copy of a classified
comment is requested. The sequence and compositon of
each format line shall be as for format lines B, C,
D, F and G of Format I (see Section 14). The procedure
shall be as described for that format; except that
when a valid entry is made, the system shall continue
after format line M (D of Formt I) by transmitting
the comment in Format G1, followed by the format line
O. The procedure may be terminated under the provisions
of Section 14, if the security interrogation aborts.
A log entry is then required.
12.6 F̲O̲R̲M̲A̲T̲ ̲L̲I̲N̲E̲ ̲O̲
CORRECTIONS?(sp)(r)(cr)(EOL)
The system shall transmit the appropriate part of this
format line and await operator response.
12.6.1 r̲ ̲-̲ ̲y̲e̲s̲ ̲o̲r̲ ̲n̲o̲
If theoperator enters yes, the procedure shall continue
with the correction sequence described in Section 31
and then return to formal line I (Section 12.4). If
the operator enters no, the procedure shall continue
with format line P.
12.6.2 D̲e̲f̲a̲u̲l̲t̲ ̲S̲e̲u̲e̲n̲c̲e̲
This shall be as described in Section 4.6.2, except
that line Q replaces line T.
12.7 F̲O̲R̲M̲A̲T̲ ̲L̲I̲N̲E̲ ̲P̲
TRANSMIT?(sp)(r)(cr)(EOL)
The system shall transmit the first part of this format
line and await operator response.
12.7.1 r̲ ̲-̲ ̲y̲e̲ ̲o̲r̲ ̲n̲o̲
If the operator responds with a valid entry, the system
shall transmit format line Q and return to rest mode
with respect to that terminal. If the response is yes,
the system shall then additionally initiate the transmission
of the commentin the format described in Section 11
to the nominated staff cells. If the response is no,
the system shall hold the comment until instructed
to proceed using Format G3 again.
The drafter shall be periodically notified of such
comments which are ithheld (see Section 21).
12.7.2 D̲e̲f̲a̲u̲l̲t̲ ̲S̲e̲q̲u̲e̲n̲c̲e̲
If the operator responds with an invalid entry, the
procedure shall continue with the default sequence
