1̲.̲ ̲ ̲S̲C̲O̲P̲E̲
The scope of this document is to present a Recommended
Spare Parts List (RSPL), which will support the achievement
of a predicted availability of each ATDL/MBDL Converter
(AMC) with a confidence level of c.
2̲.̲ ̲ ̲M̲E̲T̲H̲O̲D̲O̲L̲O̲G̲Y̲
2.1 P̲E̲R̲I̲O̲D̲ ̲O̲F̲ ̲S̲U̲P̲P̲O̲R̲T̲
The RSPL for each AMC (Unit level RSPL) has been prepared
to ensure 90 days of operation, with a confidence level
of 90%, whereas the National depot level RSPL has been
calculated for countries with resp 1,2 and 4 units
to ensure the presence of spares required to support
the units for a period of 180 days, with a confidence
level of 90%
The RSPL for NATO common depot level and 5th echelon
level has been calculated for a total amount of AMC's
of 8,9 and 10 for a period of 270 days, with a confidence
level of 80%.
2.2 I̲N̲S̲U̲R̲A̲N̲C̲E̲ ̲T̲Y̲P̲E̲ ̲I̲T̲E̲M̲S̲ ̲A̲N̲D̲ ̲M̲A̲I̲N̲T̲E̲N̲A̲N̲C̲E̲ ̲F̲L̲O̲A̲T̲
Insurance type items are items, which, though not required
for pure statistical reasons, must be included due
to long lead time. Insurance type Items have been
included at unit as well as national and NATO level.
Due to the availability of spares on unit level the
amount of spares on the higher levels have been decreased
as result of a Maintenance Float consideration.
2.3 F̲O̲R̲M̲U̲L̲A̲ ̲F̲O̲R̲ ̲S̲P̲A̲R̲E̲S̲ ̲C̲A̲L̲C̲U̲L̲A̲T̲I̲O̲N̲
M̲e̲t̲h̲o̲d̲ ̲t̲o̲ ̲C̲a̲l̲c̲u̲l̲a̲t̲e̲ ̲N̲u̲m̲b̲e̲r̲ ̲o̲f̲ ̲S̲p̲a̲r̲e̲s̲
In order to determine the number of spares it will
be assumed that the failure rate of each module (circuit
board) has an exponential distribution. This approximation
holds true for electronic equipment throughout its
useful life, i.e. wear-out phenomena can be ignored.
Thus the probability mass function for each module
is:

where MTBF is the Mean Time Between Failure for that
module.
It can be shown that the probability of observing exactly
