W̲a̲n̲g̲, a strong market leader in many areas of office automation, is just starting
to ship Wangnet in uantity. It's sold as a broadband OR a baseband net, depending
on user requirements (and expense budget). Wang's strong foothold in word processing
thoughout the U.S. will give them an edge in many respects. But it's quite an expensive
procuct, andthe broadband technology is not really in place yet. And it's CSMA/CD
based. And it's a closed net.
Planet from R̲a̲c̲a̲l̲ ̲M̲i̲l̲g̲o̲ and certainly PolyNet from L̲o̲g̲i̲c̲a̲ are important contenders,
too. PolyNet, however, is based on Cambridge Ring principles,
