Appendix 1: NICS TARE Interface
CPS/ICD/0004
1̲ ̲ ̲S̲Y̲S̲T̲E̲M̲ ̲O̲V̲E̲R̲V̲I̲E̲W̲
In this tender it is described how to interconnect
the FIKS network with a CAMPS site, without using the
NICS-TARE system. An overview is shown overleaf.
Before using the connection an open command must be
issued by the SCC-supervisor at the active SCC. Only
the connection at the active SCC may be used.
When a signal has been prepared at CAMPS the signal
is forwarded to FIKS. The conversion module at the
SCC inspects the routing information in ACP127 line
2. Any routing indicators known in the FIKS network
are converted to FIKS ANO's and the ACP127 signal is
converted to SMF (simplified message format). If the
signal contains any foreign routing indicators the
signal is put into SMF-"envelope" and routed for the
manual NICS/TARE punchers.
When a signal has been prepared at a FIKS node, containing
X-ANO's this signal is forwarded to the SCC for conversion.
Two copies of the signal are now generated, one containing
ACP127 line 2 with all CAMPS routing indicators, and
another containing ACP127 line 2 with foreign routing
indicators. The first signal is transmitted to CAMPS
via the 600 bps. connection. The latter is put into
an SMF-envelope and forwarded to the manual NICS/TARE-punchers.
If any illegal or unknown information is detected during
conversion the signal is forwarded to the SCC supervisor
in the intercept queue.
The checkpointing between the active and standby SCC
is performed by standard FIKS S/W.
To implement the above functions, changes must be made
at the FIKS-SCC. The ACP127 - SMF conversion routines
must be updated to satisfy the extended requirements.
Furthermore, additional 32 KRAM must be installed.

A subset of the NICS-TARE ANO's shall be dedicated
to CAMPS.
The conversion module shall make 2 copies of the generated
ACP-message, if requested via the ANO's. One copy for
CAMPS and one for manual NICS-TARE. The copy for CAMPS
will only contain CAMPS ROUTING INDICATOR:
In case of conversion error, the original message is
sent for intercept, and no converted message is delivered.
The message for NICS-TARE and CAMPS will have different
serial numbers. The CAMPS number can be reset on request
from the MAS module (ASP to SMF conversion).
An NTT-queue, in addition to the NT-queue is needed
for checkpointing.
A̲C̲P̲ ̲-̲ ̲S̲M̲F̲ ̲i̲n̲t̲e̲r̲n̲a̲l̲
No changes needed
Danish routing indicator will be accepted
All "non-Danish" routing indicators (Rxxx..) will be
converted to one ANO corresponding to a special NICS/TARE
puncher. It is checked that any routing indicator is
started with "R". Only one copy will be generated for
the NICS/TARE puncher.
A̲C̲P̲ ̲ ̲ ̲S̲M̲F̲ ̲e̲x̲t̲e̲r̲n̲a̲l̲
Danish routing indicators will be accepted.
All "non-Danish" routing indicators (Rxxx..) will be
converted to one ANO corresponding to a special NICS/TARE
puncher. It is checked that any routing indicator is
started with "R". Only one copy will be generated for
the NICS/TARE puncher.
If a control message is received, the message is deleted
and an answer is sent if expected. The control messages
recognized are abbreviated service messages (ASM).
Ref. appendix 1 (NICS TARE Interface pg. 20-36.
If the control message received, is an original narrative
message, changed to a control message by the operator
via the terminalprocess (TEPINT), the MAS will clean
up the initiated checkpointing caused by the narrative
message.
If the control message is a serial number reset-request,
then a message is sent to the MSA module to reset the
counter.
If the message is a narrative message or an unrecognized
control message, the conversion will perform the normal
narrative processing.
1.2 O̲T̲H̲E̲R̲ ̲M̲O̲D̲U̲L̲E̲ ̲C̲H̲A̲N̲G̲E̲S̲
A new queue - NTT - shall be supported by QACCESS.
A new log-type shall be supported by the printerprocess
HSPP[3.
The MAC process shall delete checkpoint in NTT-queue
at acknowledge from NTS instead of deliver the ack
to the CIP process.
1.3 T̲R̲A̲N̲S̲M̲I̲S̲S̲I̲O̲N̲ ̲L̲I̲N̲E̲ ̲A̲N̲D̲ ̲C̲A̲B̲L̲E̲S̲
The connection between CAMPS and FIKS is a 600 bps
synchronous connection with CRYPTO equipment, ref.
FIG. 1.4-1.
AMC-responsibility.…01……01…FIG. 1.4-1…01…CAMPS-FIKS Connection
As shown on FIG. 1.4-1 AMC has the responsibility of
the transmission line including modems and crypto equipment.
For cable specification ref. app. 1 pp. 11-14.
2̲ ̲ ̲T̲E̲S̲T̲
To verify the proper function of the CAMPS-FIKS connection
the following will be proformed.
o Open channel
o At CAMPS: Prepare signal containing routing indicators
of FIKS destinations
o Release signal
o Verify proper receipt of signal at FIKS destination
o At FIKS: Prepare signal with CAMPS ANO's and foreign
ANO's.
o Release signal
o Verify proper receipt at CAMPS and manual NICS/TARE
interface.
o Close channel
A detailed test procedure will be made as part of the
contract.
3̲ ̲ ̲D̲O̲C̲U̲M̲E̲N̲T̲A̲T̲I̲O̲N̲
Documentation will include product specifications and
source listings of conversion modules.
A detailed test procedure will be prepared.
4̲ ̲ ̲D̲E̲L̲I̲V̲E̲R̲Y̲
The system will be ready for acceptance, 9 months after
the day of order. The final documentation will be delivered
not later than 1 months after system acceptance. Within
the test period AMC shall provide CR A/S access to
the N/M K - SCC Q systems at least 4 hours a day within
the period 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. In exess of this at least
4 access hours a day, outside said period shall be
provided. AMC shall further provide office facilities
for 2 CR employees within the test period. It is the
responsibility of the AMC that the communication line
shown in FIG. 1.4-1 is available at the beginning of
the test period.
The test period will commence 6 months after the day
of order.
