The equipment will arrive to site dissassembled and
packed as follows:
- Computer Rack 1, 2, 3 Assembly are seperated into
individual racks and shipped.
- Disk units, floppy disks, patch panels and modules
are removed from the racks and shipped in their
own containers.
- Cables between racks are generally shipped as part
of one of the racks. Internal rack cables are not
removed.
- Terminal equipment (VDU, MSP) are shipped in their
own containers.
5.2 P̲A̲C̲K̲I̲N̲G̲ ̲M̲A̲T̲E̲R̲I̲A̲L̲ ̲A̲N̲D̲ ̲M̲E̲T̲H̲O̲D̲S̲
5.2.1 G̲e̲n̲e̲r̲a̲l̲
The packing method to be used depends on whether the
item is delivered for installation or as a spare item.
For both groups the package must protect against the
transportation environment. The items are to be shipped
by air and truck and are to be packed accordingly.
The items should be packed in accordance with their
respective packing instruction found in the following
sections.
When the site equipment is delivered and unpacked,
some of the packing material should be stored at the
site and used to pack items which must be returned
for repair. It is recommended that at least one package
for each piece of equipment is stored for later reuse.
5.3 C̲R̲8̲0̲M̲ ̲I̲T̲E̲M̲S̲
5.3.1 I̲d̲e̲n̲t̲i̲f̲i̲c̲a̲t̲i̲o̲n̲ ̲o̲f̲ ̲C̲R̲8̲0̲M̲ ̲M̲o̲d̲u̲l̲e̲s̲ ̲t̲o̲ ̲b̲e̲ ̲p̲a̲c̲k̲e̲d̲

to site as described in the following procedure:
CR8020M MAP
CR8016M 128K RAM
CR8003M CPU/CACHE
CR8055M MBT

CR8047M FD CONTROLLER
5.3.2 P̲a̲c̲k̲i̲n̲g̲ ̲o̲f̲ ̲C̲R̲8̲0̲M̲ ̲M̲o̲d̲u̲l̲e̲
The CR80 Module (a) is placed in a wrapping of cardboard
(b), see Figure 5.3.2-1. The module is fixed by this
wrapping. An outer wrapping (c) is folded around the
module and the wrapping (b). The wrapping (c) is sealed
by PVC tape. The similar package for CR80M power supply
is shown in Figure 5.3.2-2.
Depending on the status of the module, either as a
site installed or as a spare module, two ways of finishing
packing exist.
If the module is intended for site installation, it
will be packed as follows:
The adapter and 1M modules are stacked in quantities
of maximum 11 and 9 modules, respectively, and the
power supply in quantities of 2 (see Figure 5.3.2-3,
5.3.2-4, and 5.3.2-5).
The stacked modules are taped together. The modules
are placed on four protective edges (b) in a cardboard
container (c) (dimensions: 54x32x61 cm).
The 1M module and the power supplies are placed upright
on a piece of cardboard (d) nesting on four protective
edges. At the top protective edges will be used to
fix the modules in the container.
The spare 1M module is packed in the inner wrapping
(b and c). The module is placed in an outer container
(e) (Figure 5.3.2-1). The module is fixed by the two
sets of upholstery (d) and (f). The upholstery (f)
is placed along the short side of the container. The
upholstery (d) is fixed on the longest edge of the
module wrapping. The module is slid into the outer
container which is sealed by 2" PVC tape.
The package for the spare CR80M power supply is shown
on Figure 5.3.2-2. The sealed cardboard box (d) is
placed in an outer container of plywood (f). Inside
the plywood container, the module is secured by the
upholstery (e, g, and h). Finally the lid (i) is placed
and fastened to the container with nails.

5.3.3 C̲R̲8̲0̲M̲ ̲C̲r̲a̲t̲e̲
The packing of the CR80M crate (a) is given in the
following step and is referring to Figure 5.3.3-1.
Before the crate can be packed, the black rail mounted
on the underside of the crate must be removed. The
rail is wrapped in cushioning material and taped onto
the upper side of the crate. The rail must be placed
so that it does not exceed the height of the front
edge of the crate.
To avoid scratches, the handles must be equipped with
reinforced tape. A strap placed around the back of
the crate will be useful when lifting the crate in
and out of the inner container (b…0f…2…0e…).
The crate is placed in the inner container. The handles
must face the short side where no fixing wood is placed.
The plywood box (b…0f…1…0e…) is placed on the top of the crate.
The four protective edges (d) are placed in each corner
of the outer plywood container (c). The inside of the
outer container is draped with a piece of strong polyethylene
(1.5x2m). The inner box (b…0f…1…0e… + b…0f…2…0e… + a) is then placed
inside the outer container and the polyethylene is
wrapped around the inner box and sealed by tape.
Finally, the four protective edges (g) at the top and
the lid (f) are placed. The lid must be nailed to the
outer container. The outer container is equipped with
handles to ease the lifting and transportating of the
container.
For the dimension of the container refer to Figure
5.3.3.-2.

As for CR80M Crate, yet some modifications have been
made to the package, see Figure 5.3.4
Being a small crate, the height of the package has
been reduced and the inner container (b) is equipped
with a lid (c). This makes out the inner box containing
crate wrapped in strong polyethylene.

For the CR80S modules and power supply the existing
package of molded foam will be used. (see Figure 5.4.1).
The spare modules are shipped in a packaging similar
to the outer package intended for CR80 M modules, (see
Figure 5.4.1.). The following modules are identified
to be packed:

panels are shipped in their own containers as received
from the manufacturers.
5.6 R̲A̲C̲K̲S̲
Each rack is separately packed on a wooden pallet,
protected with styrophor-corner and wrapped in PVC
sheets. An outer wrapping of plywood will protect
the five free surfaces (see Figure 5.6).
