All voltages used in the channel unit are verified
by a digital multimeter. The measurements are carried
out on the front panel of the CCA located on the rear
side of the CU crate (1A2A1A25), refer to Figure 5.9.1.
The voltages are checked to be within below limits:
+24V = 22.8 - 25.2V
+12V = 12.6 - 12.8V
+5V = 5.68 - 5.72V
-12V = 12.6 - 12.8V

a) Before terminating the opto cable, a rubber tubing,
size 8 x 12 x 250 mm, must be mounted on the cable,
see ATBB dwg. 130.
b) The opto fibres are to be pulled through the rear
waveguide (port 3) into the VDU.
(See ATBB dwg. 130).
c) The two fibres must be terminated with special
opto connectors.
For detailed termination procedures refer to para
1.3, doc. No. 4.
d) In case of opto splicing this will be done by mounting
of an adapter between the two male connectors,
using the same kind of male connectors as for the
terminals.
e) Before connecting the two fibres to the optical
modem board in the VDU, the black receiver cable
with the opto connector must be checked for supplying
enough light emission.
The transmitter of the opto T/R in the TDX crate
is used as source for the opto fibre (black cable
connected).
f) Connect the black fibre in the VDU end to the 11XE
fiber optic power meter and verify that the optical

fastened from inside the J-box by the nut.
c) The metallic conduit is mounted to the fitting
by means of the hose lock and the lock nut.
d) Repeat step b) and c) for mounting of the conduit
to the PTP/PTR (see ATBB drawing 131).
e) The metallic interface cable coming from the filter
box is pulled through the conduit into the PTP/PTR.
The cable will be terminated by a cannon plug according
to the pin assignment table 5.3.2 page 5.5 in the
ATBB Doc.

a) Connect the power plug to the wall outlet.
b) Turn on the "power on/off" switch located on the
lower right front of the terminal.
c) Operate the keylock switch to the ON position (right
hand front panel).
d) Immediately after power up the terminal executes
a series of system diagnostics. If all are working
properly, the power-up menu will be displayed on
the screen within 10 seconds.
e) Adjust the intensity and focus until the characters
are clear and bright. Do not advance the intensity
too far or the display area may be highlighted.
f) Adjust the audible alarm for the desired sound
level (control shift and the G key).
g) When all the terminals have been switched on and
locally tested, the transmitter of the optical
modem board in the VDU, the white opto cable, and
the opto connection to the TDX crate must be checked
for supplying enough light emission.
h) Connect one by one all the white fibres terminated
in the opto T/R located in the TDX crates to the
11XE fibre optic power meter and check that the
optical power output is not less than -34.6dBm.
i) If the optical power output is less than -34.6
dBm, the cable will be terminated with a new pair
of OPTO connectors. If still outside tolerance,
the cable will be marked as Bad and a new cable
must be installed.
