This ICD includes the description of commands and procedures
defining the operator/computer interface related to
the CAMPS supervisory functions:
- supervisor functions (section 2 to 22)
- message service functions (section 23)
- message distribution control (section 24 to 25)
- engineering functions (section 26)
The supervisory functions are implemented by means
of commands (defined in section 1.1) and prompt/answer
based procedures (defined in section 1.2):

The specific command and procedure format is subject
to change during the system and subsystem design phase,
while the data items operated on will remain unchanged.
The table structures depicted are logical and do not
imply specific requirements to the implementation.

The supervisors' use of commands is illustrated in
the diagram overleaf (refer to section 1.1.3 for a
symbol definition)
The operator specifies a command followed by one or
more variable data fields. If the command is protected
a permissive entry code (PEC) is entered after the
last data field.
If the specified command is a shorthand version, the
"unshortened" version is displayed on the line following
the command.
If the specified command has restrictive effects, the
restrictive text is displayed on the line following
the command.
If the operator confirmes the command a transaction
ID is displayed and the action belonging to the command
commences. Upon completion a completion-report is printed.
Update of a parameter by a command shall - unless otherwise
specified - have effect for future access to the parameter.

The error information given due to invalid commands
shall explicitly state the reason:
- invalid data entry (syntax or semantic error)
- command function not allowed from that terminal
- not followed by the permissive entry code (PEC)
- ineffective (e.g. ascribing functions to non-existant
terminal).
Syntax requirements (check of format) and semantic
requirements (check of contents) are described in section
1.3 and in the REMARKS field (refer to overleaf diagram).

Explains the interaction

The supervisor uses interactive procedures for realizing
supervisor functions relating to table update, message
handling, MDCO, and message service functions. The
systems reaction to an invalid entry is described in
section 1.2.1.1.
A special scheme is used for the table update procedures
as defined below.

The interactive procedures have been designed such
that:
a) Update of a table entry by a procedure shall -
unless otherwise specified - have effect for future
access to the parameter.
b) The tables operated on have a fixed size, which
is defined at the time of generation.
c) Update of a table entry has - unless otherwise
specified - no side effects.
The general diagram used in shown overleaf in table
1.1.1-1.
The supervisor specifies the procedure handling the
table to be displayed/modified.
The computer displays a transaction-id and the supervisor
specifies a specific table entry, which the computer
displays. If the entry does not exist a dummy entry
defining the format of the entry is displayed.
Now the computer prompts FUNCTION and the supervisor
may respond:
I: the specified (non existing entry) is to be modified
and inserted.
C: The specified (existing entry) is to be modified
and inserted.
D: The specified (existing entry) is to be deleted
and the DISPLAY prompt is issued.

Now specific update interactions follow.
Having completed the updating interactions, the modified
entry obtained above is displayed.
The ACCEPT prompt is then issued and the supervisor
specifies, if the modified entry is to be stored.
The computer displays: END.
