subject: camps hardware status
------------------------------
ref.: a) shape telex, camps log no. 1351
b) cr telex, cps/101/tlx/0942, 830825
c) cr telex, cps/101/tlx/0905, 830719
d) mom shape/cr no. 33, 830706
e) fat report, site 12, cps/trp/017, 830718
1 This telex provides comments to the questions regarding
potential problems in the camps hardware raised by
shape in ref a).
in addition a general statement on the current hardware
status on the camps site equipment is provided based
on cr's experience during integration and test.
2 Head alignment problem in the disk units. (ref a, sect.
1a)
-----------------------------------------------------------
The investigations indicated in CR telex, ref c, have
been continued, and the problem has been resolved as
follows:
2.1 The initial boot as used in the FAT test boots up
a "boot module" containing all programs used in
the test procedure.
This boot operation is driven by the DAMU program located
in PROM's on the MIA-module.
The DAMU boot program is more sensible to read errors
than the DAMOS handler used in operation (it is not
able to adjust head position etc).
By analysis of the current version of the DAMU program
the following was detected:
a) The DAMU is specified for 10 retries.
b) The current version made only one try, but the error
code indicated 10.
A new updated release will be issued after test. The
scheduled date for release is october 1, 1983.
The new version DAMU will be issued as an ECO to the
MIA-module.
2.2 The test disk pack used for test in the latest fat's
has been generated on a disk drive, which is out
of alignment after repair at cr.
2.2.1 head alignment is done using a "ce-packet",
i.e. a specially prepared disk with the cylinders placed
precisely according to specifications.
2.2.2 cr has several ce-packets available inhouse
and tests have shown that one is beyond specified tolerances.
2.2.3 our repair log shows that this defect ce-packet
has been used for repair of the disk drive used for
generating the fat-disk pack.
2.2.4 the following actions have been initiated:
a) re-adjustment of disk drive
b) production of new fat-disk packs.
c) check of disk drives in the sites 8,12 and 14 and
all other camps disk drives available at cr, which
are suspected to be out of alignment.
d) elimination of all disk packs produced on misaligned
disk drives.
e) to ensure that feasible preventive field maintenance
actions minimates the risk for incompatibilities
between camps sites in the field

3 vdu failure rate for site 12 (ref a, sect 1b)
---------------------------------------------
3.1 shape's question regarding vdu failure rate has
been raised based on the ncr-overview in the FAT-report,
(ref e), appendix c.
3.2 this ncr-overview presents all problems encountered
by the test engineer throughout the site integration
period.
this overview is included in the test report on shape's
request.
All updates and repair on the vdu's are handled by
the repair group within the ils-department at cr, which
is going to take over the responsibility for repair
in the warranty period.
The current work sharing between ils-repair and the
camps integration team includes that final test is
done by the integration team.
For the site 12-vdu's the final test has been conducted
in the site 12-integation period and, therefore, the
observed problems have (correctly) been included in
the FAT 12 report.
3.3 cr has analysed the reported VDU failures, and provides
the following information for clarification: (reference:
ref e, appendix c):
8 vdu's failed
ERR.NO. VDU Description
------ --- -----------
32 741275 Picture unstable. crt board failure.
34 741676 ee prom malfunction part/pmm board
failure.
35 741430 keyboard malfunction. keyboard/cable
failure
39 741697 brightness/contrast malfunction.
crt system failure.
48 741416 dmm board failure.
49 741667 picture unstable. crt board failure.
53 741426 dmm board failure.
57 741652 wrong display - due to bad eprom.
comments:
unstable picture means a slight vertical wave on the
screen and is due to an error in the crt circuit.
dmm board failure means an error in the ram area of
this board that is a ram-chip has failed.
bad eprom. cr updates all vdu eproms during integration,
occationally one of these proms passes chip verification,
but fails when mounted in vdu.
3.4 cr is continuously monitoring the failure
rate of the vdu's and the rest of the equipment
after fat.
our observations have not displayed any new trends
regarding the reliability of the vdu's.
the control check on the site 12 vdu's (ref b) shows
that after an accumulated time of use of more than
10.000 (ten thousand) hours, no vdu's had failed.
3.5 cr's conclusion at this point of time is that
a) no needs have been observed for changing cr's
testing of the vdu's in order to improve reliability
in use
b) no trends have been observed which call for
further investigation.
4. msp problems
------------
4.1 the ncr overview in the fat report for site
12 identifies 2 msp's with printing problems:
err.no serial no description
------ --------- -----------
55 72 bad printing. print head driver
board defective
56 18 dots missing. failure in motherboard.
the boards have been returned to
tracor for repair.
5. intermittend system dumps
-------------------------
5.1 shape telex, ref a) states an internal shape
document as reference. cr would appreciate
to have the report available in order to check,
if all the problems reported have been covered
by internal problem reports at cr.
5.2 based on problems reported in the period of
f.michel's stay at cr, several aspects seem
to be involved:
a) software is currently under test. specially is a
lot of updates under test on channels supported
by the tdx-system
b) in a number of cases, the system is halted with
an error code stating "sti-dma error"
5.3 a problem report has been established on the "sti-dma
error". the following actions have been taken to
eliminate the problem:
a) an eco, (no 808) has been released
this eco updates the sti-micro-f/w (ic's no: 1885
to 1893) from rev.10 to rev.11. the module is changed
from rev. 3a to 3b.
this eco reduced the frequency of the "sti-dma"
error a factor 10 (ten)
b) a reference system was dedicated troubleshooting
of the problem
the h/w of this system was checked intensely. the
result of this check was that no hardware deficiencies
were observed.
c) a new release of tdx-system-f/w is almost through
test and will be released shortly. this new release
amongst other also includes some modifications,
which eliminates identified potential sources of
the sti-dma-error.
after release from development will this new release
f/w be installed on the reference system for further
observations.
5.4 status today is that on no h/w-items have been observed
qualified defects in relation to the sti-dma problem.
the new release of the tdx-f/w will be handled as
eco's for 3 modules: sti, tia, ltux-s.
6. the trouble shooting of the sti-dma failure is being
monitored very closely to ensure coordination of
effords and availability and of the best qualified
resources.
current status based on the camps sites in use for
integration at cr is that the sti-dma-error is the
only pending malfunction problem, where the h/w design
cannot be totally out of suspicion.

Subject: Paper-out status
-------------------------
One of the printers from last shipment, received in december
1983 has been tested for the paper-out problem. Apparently
the unknown status reports are not generated on this
printer, but the problem concerning too many identical
status reports still occur. In addition we have detected
a false paper-out condition.
The detailed test set-up and test results are descriped
in the following:
Test at printer 232 (received December 1983)
Testcases 9-10:
---------------
In printing a message then "paper out" occur. The key
are turned OFF. Insert paper and push FORM FEED button.
Turn key ON.
Testcase 10:
------------
A false "paper in" condition also occur.
Testcase 11-12:

-------------------------------------
CR has retested the bugs mentioned on your telex 1. March 1982:
Bug 7.54 - Flow control
-----------------------
CR has verified that the VDU behaves like statet by Delta in
the telex. But in our openion this behaviour is not convenient.
The off condition of CTS circuit should not influence transmission
from host to VDU.
Following test was carried out by CR:
Mode:TTY. CTS circuit is in off condition. From the keyboard
four chars are entered, then six chars are send from the host
to the VDU. Until now no chars are processed by the VDU.
Now CTS is turned on. Now the characters are processed as follows:
The first keyboard char - the six host chars - the remaining
three keyboard chars. Is this behaviour correct? Is the host
buffer priority higher than the priority of the keyboard buffer?
- Please comment.
Bug 7.70 - missing key data when CTS disabled
---------------------------------------------
Mode:TTY. If the CTS curcuit is in off condition only ten key
entries (PF-key and other keys) are allowed. Further keyboard
entries are discarded by the VDU due to keyboard buffer overflow.
please comment.
Bug 7.73 - clear to end of line
-------------------------------
The bug is corrected.
Bug 7.76 - buffer full/buffer wait state
----------------------------------------
CR has observed following:
When the keyboard is activated during host update of the VDu
split the VDU stays in buffer full/buffer wait state. Perhaps
bug no. 7.76 and bug no. 7.90 are identical - please comment.
Bug 7.79 - mandatory fields do not work
---------------------------------------
The bug is corrected.
Bug 7.86 - shift out sequence over more than one block
------------------------------------------------------
The bug is closed. It has not been possible to duplicate the
error with monitor version 2.22.
hereafter the status is:

Subject: Delta 7260 tc, errors in prom version 2.22
---------------------------------------------------
In prom version 2.22 received 840203 some of the major
bugs have been corrected, allthough the insert line function
still is very slow.
Bug 7.91 still exist. The detailed test-sequence is described
below:
Monitor version 2.22
Bug 7.91 - Break from host to VDU
---------------------------------
As statet before the acknowledgement phases in the VDU
are not reset upon receiving a break sequence from the
host.
To show that the phases in the Delta VDU are not reset
following test sequence can be used:
1. Power off-on the VDU. Configurate the VDU to 2400 bps
odd parity
2. Enter block mode as follows:
a) host sends break to VDU for 256 ms
b) host waits for 1 s
c) host sends:
0E 5D 80 80 80 80 80 80 80 80 80 80
3. host request key status:
a) host to VDU:
02 0E AB 76 83 B5 32
b) VDU to host:
86 B0 40 13
02 40 4C 40 83 34 C4 04
4. From the keyboard following character sequence is entered:
SOM 1 2 3 4 5 EOM
5. The entered character sequence is now readed from the
host:
a) host to VDU:
02 0E B0 DC 40 B0 B0 B5 31 83 32 37
b) VDU to host:
86 31 40 13
02 40 31 32 B3 34 B5 83 37 B0 13
c) host to VDU:
86 B0
6. host request key status:
a) host to VDU
02 0E AB 76 83 B5 32
b) VDU to host
86 B0 40 13
02 40 4C 40 83 34 C4 04
7. Now the host resets the VDU as follows:
a) host sends break to VDU for 256 ms
b) host waits for 1 s
c) host sends:
0E 5D 80 80 80 80 80 80 80 80 80 80
Because the VDU is already in block mode the last
char
sequence should be ignored - and so it is.
8. The host request key status:
a) host to VDU
02 0E AB 76 83 B5 32
b) VDU to host:
86 31 02 40 4C 40 83 34 C4 04
This is wrong. The phase should be B0 and not 31.
c) host to VDU:
02 0E AB 76 83 B5 32
d) VDU host:
86 B0 02 40 4C 40 83 34 C4 04
8. From the keyboard following character sequence is entered:
SOM 1 2 3 4 5 EOM
9. The entered character sequence is now readed from the
host
a) host to VDU:
02 0E B0 DC 40 B0 B0 B5 31 83 32 37
b) VDU to host:
86 31 40 13
02 40 31 32 B3 34 B5 83 37 B0 13
c) host to VDU:
86 B0
d) VDU to host:
02 40 31 32 B3 34 B5 83 37 B0 13
The VDU retransmits the message because it expects
an
acknowledgement 1 from the host. This is wrong.
The VDU
should expect an acknowledgement with the phase
0.
e) VDU to host:
85 04
f) host to VDU
86 B0

subject: errors on tracor printer
---------------------------------
on the tracor printer we have detected two problems concerning
the paper out status.
the problems, which are probably due to bugs in the tracor printer
firmware, are non-deterministic, but do normally occur after
less than ten attempts. A detailed description of the problems
are outlined below.
problem 1.
----------
the sequence of events is as follows:
1. printer status: paper out
2. the printer does not respond at status request
3. the key is turned off. the printer sends a asynchronous
report:
paper out, key off
4. at next status request the printer sends response:
paper out.
(no change at printer). then comes a synchron report:
paper out, key off.
5. the next 3 status requests give same response.
6. then only a paper out response and after that no
response.(see copy of com.tester).

-------------------------
1 Acknowledge receipt of 45 Discrepancy Notes on January
16th. These DN's seem to represent Harris initial comments
to the SRD. Please advise when CR will receive comments
from NODECA.
2 As stated in the progress report, all comments to the
SRD must be in out possession one week prior to the
review meeting. CR reserves the right to postphone
the planned review meeting 31. jan. thru 4. Feb. and
adjust the master schedule accordingly, in case not
all comments have been received on or before January
23rd.
3 In general the SRD specifies w̲h̲a̲t̲ shall be implemented
and the SDS describes h̲o̲w̲ this will be done. The ICD's
in general details a w̲h̲a̲t̲ by specification of h̲o̲w̲'s
and are therefore design documents.
The difference between an ICD and a SDS is that the
ICD addresses the design of an external interface to
which the users may have special interests (ship/shore
procedures, man/machine interface etc.).
In order to understand some SRD specifications it is
envisoned that a demonstration of h̲o̲w̲ will help to
achieve approval.
All ICD's are therefore scheduled to be present in
draft versions for the SRD review meeting.
No cross reference matrix IFB to ICD is planned or
found needed. Where the IFB to SRD matrix instead of
specification of a SRD paragraph calls out an ICD,
the specific IFB paragraph contains design (e.g. ACP126
to ACP127 conversion).
4 We have not received any comments to the following
ICD's:
- ACP127 and ACP126 procedures
- NICS TARE I/F
- TRC I/F
Comments should be in our possession 6th January (ref.
progress report). Please note that review of above
documents not is part of the SRD review meeting except
as indicated in item 3 above.
5 Ref. your telex CFX-101 item 2:
OEM ̲handbook with prior nato approval "as is" and other
manuals including those identified during Rochester
meetings 12 thru 14 December 1983 will be made available
for Harris review during the SRD review meeting.
6 Ref. your telex CFX-101 item 3:
A general revision of PAD/PLN/001 is ongoing and will
be followed by a revision of all QA procedures. None
of the existing QA procedures will therefore be signed
by the Systems Division Manager. The MPF project and
the QA department will regardless missing signatures
live up to the delivered QA-plan. Suggest that revised
QA-procedures are inspected by the Goverment Quality
Assurance Representative (GQAR) during his normal visits
at CR's facilities.
Please advise if a meeting shall be arranged between
our QA-department and Harris representatives during
the SRD review.
7 We are in possession of the March 1983 version of the
NICS TARE Technical Interface Criteria document. Still
we have not received any of the missing documents detailed
in the monthly progress report. The missing documentation
is now critical and it is very hard to see how an impact
on the master schedule can be avoided.
Please submit status on missing documents.
Kind regards,
CHRISTIAN ROVSING A/S

i. CR provides the following answers to SHAPE's comments
contained in above ref.
1.1 CR agrees
1.2 CR agrees
1.3 The remaining parameters are left at their default
values which are:
a. send continuity messages to NICS TARE every
5 mins.
b. expect continuity messages from NICS TARE
every 6 mins: yes
c. service message generated if more than 140
identical consecutive characters received
: yes
d. expect flash receipt within 20 mins.
4 If no. 3-letter group is following format line
12b prosign "sic" then format line 12b is considered
present but garbled.
5 1+2: will be added as appendicies to the subject
document
5 3+4: no changes will be made, ref. iii below.
ii 1 according to CR's files CPS/TPR/008 is approved
cat. 1 by SHAPE. However, CR agrees to delete
all references to CPS/TPR/008 in the subject
document.
2 according to the data base all users have release
capabilities, however, the associated release
terminal for terminals SEC, OPA and OPC is VDU
OPB.
3-8 CR agrees
iii CR agrees to include a demonstration of CSSI
support software during the functional software
test at SHAPE. The procedure will be included
in CPS/TPR/008. The demonstration shall be performed
in less than one working day.
In the subject document paras 2.1.3 and 2.1.4, references
to SRS para 3.5.11.3 are deleted. References to SRS
para 3.5.11.5 are changed to: "part of 3.5.11.5 a)
and 3.5.11.5.2".
iv Based on findings during the latest dry runs CR kindly
requests the following further updates to the subject
document:
1 p. 48, case 7.3 last line should read: "add SCD's
OPA and OPO to the coordination list "p. 129,
case 7.3 last line should read: "add SCD's OPO
and OSA to the coordination list" p. 209, case
7.3. "add SCD's OSA and OPA to the coordination
list". Reason: the third SCD in the message points
to a MSP.
2 p. 59, 140 and 220, step 13.7: "and release it"
shall be deleted. Reason: release terminal cannot
be reached.
2a p 248, test msg. no 309: specat pp shall be changed
to ee dk. reason: vdu opc does not have specat
pp capabilities.
3 p. 63, 144, 224, step 18.3-4: the referenced
testmessage shall be numbered "-2". Reason: "-1"
has already been used.
4 p. 85, 165 and 246, test msg.no, X07: special
handling DD shall be deleted. Reason: this msg.
is used for demonstration of exempt on info PLA's,
however, the release terminal does not have specat
DD capabilities.
5 p. 113, 193 and 274, test msg. no. X35: local
distribution SCD shall be changed to: DPD. Reason:
the device associated to SCD NMP is not included
in the test setup.
6 p. 325, 380, and 438, step 6.2: No warning report
is generated for controlled lines. Reason: On
controlled lines end of message is indicated
in the level 2 protocol and detection of a halted
message is done on level 2 and not on a missing
eotf.
7 p. 326, 381, and 439, step 10.2, result: the
message is also routed to the MSO for RI assignment.
Reason: the garbled fl. 10 is interpreted as
an unrecogniseable PLA.
8 p. 332, step 29.2: Add: "29.2 a VDU SEC SIOF".
Reason: Distribution to the quiet hours terminal
only takes place if the destination terminal
is signed off.
9 P. 379 and 437, step 4.2, result: the message
is queued at the destination user VDU. Reason:
on controlled lines start of message is indicated
in the level 2 protocol and a missing SOTF does
not prevent normal automatic message processing.
No warning report is generated.
10 P. 383, step 18.2, result: the message is queued
at VDU OPA. Reason: messages from scars shall
not be relayed based on t-instructions. ref.
srs para 3.2.2.5.1.
11 p. 444, steps 25.3 and 25.4 shall be deleted.
reason: flash receipt is generated automatically
by the tds.
12 p. 434 and 444-445, case 26: this testcase shall
be deleted. reason: the tds automatically generates
flash receipts and, therefore, this situation
cannot be simulated.
13 p. 320, 325, 375, 380, 433, and 438, case 7:
this testcase shall be deleted. Reason: too long
lines are an unacceptable deviation for uncontrolled
lines only. ref: icd/003 para. 4.2.2.2.

and submit your comments/indicaton of approval.
