This format will be employed by the system to inform
the terminals of the status of messages prepared at
this terminal position using Format A (or O) and comments
prepared using Format G1. Only those lines which are
applicable shall be used in a status message. Format
lines C to I are applicable for messages and format
lines K to M are applicable for comments. Reference
should be made to Figs. 21a and 21b.
A status message shall be transmitted when requested
by format N2 and by the system at an interval (time
elapsed since last report) applicable for terminals
and determined by the supervisor.

V1 and V2: The variable fields shall be as described
in Section 2.2 referring to the transaction in course.

This format will enable a drafter to merge two messages
already stored in the system to compose a new outgoing
message. The format includes system/operator interaction.
Reference should also be made to Figs. 23a and Fig.

The system shall transmit this format line with variable
fields V1 and V2 as described in section 2.2 and referring
to the transaction in course.

The system shall output the first part of this format
line and await entry of the variables v3, v4, v5, and
v6. The variables are:
v3: is the terminal designator + transaction serial
number described in section 2.2.1.1
v4: is the time stamp described in section 2.2.1.2
v5 and v6: are the two digit line numbers defining
a section of the text part of a message.
Validation check shall be performed by the system for
the variables v3 and v4 (see below). If no line numbers
are specified, then the entire text part of a message
will be subject for merge.
23.3.2 F̲o̲r̲m̲a̲t̲ ̲L̲i̲n̲e̲ ̲C̲2̲

The system shall output the first part of this format
line and await entry of the variables v7, v8, v9, and
v10. The variables and the system action shall be as
described in section 23.3.1.
Format line C2 is optional and if the entry (cr) is
made, then the new message is built according to the
specification in format line C1.
23.3.3 V̲a̲l̲i̲d̲ ̲e̲n̲t̲r̲y̲
If the reference specified in line C1 or C2 refer to
messages stored in the system and is available for
merging at that preparaion position, then the system
shall build a new message composed in the following
way:
The message header and the extracted section of the
text part of the first referenced message will be concatenated
with the extracted section of the text part of the
second referenced message. After concatenation the
system shall display format line G and I and return
to rest mode. If only one reference has been specified,
then the system shall output format line H instead
of line G.
23.3.4 I̲n̲v̲a̲l̲i̲d̲ ̲E̲n̲t̲r̲y̲
If the entry is not a valid form, the procedure shall
continue with a default sequence transmitted in format
line D and awaiting a new entry. If three successive
invalid entries occur, the system shall transmit format
line E and I and return to rest mode. No further action
shall be taken with respect to the editing procedure
except that an entry shall be made in the system log.
23.3.5 N̲o̲n̲-̲E̲x̲i̲s̲t̲e̲n̲t̲ ̲M̲e̲s̲s̲a̲g̲e̲
If the entry is valid in form, but does not correspond
to a message stored in the central equipment, the procedure
shall continue with the default sequence described
in Section 23.3.4 ,but with format line F1 instead
of format line D. The default log entry shall be required.
23.3.6 N̲o̲t̲ ̲A̲v̲a̲i̲l̲a̲b̲l̲e̲ ̲a̲t̲ ̲t̲h̲i̲s̲ ̲T̲e̲r̲m̲i̲n̲a̲l̲
If the entry is valid, but refers to a message which
has not originated from that terminal position, the
procedure shall continue with format line F2 and format
line I. The system shall return to rest mode with respect
to that terminal and an entry shall be made in the
system log.

The system shall output the first part of this format
line and await the entry of v3 by the operator. The

and is the terminal designator plus the transaction
serial number of the message which the operator wishes
to "delete". The response of the system shall be one
of the following appropriate to the circumstances:

If the serial number refers to a message stored in
the system and available for deletion, the procedure
shall continue with format line I.

If the entry is not of a valid form, the system shall
continue with a default sequence by transmitting format
line D and awaiting a new entry for v3.

24.3.4 N̲o̲t̲ ̲A̲v̲a̲i̲l̲a̲b̲l̲e̲ ̲f̲o̲r̲ ̲D̲e̲l̲e̲t̲i̲o̲n̲ ̲-̲ ̲A̲w̲a̲i̲t̲i̲n̲g̲ ̲R̲e̲l̲e̲a̲s̲e̲
The system shall not automatically delete a message
after the originator has indicated that he wishes the
messsage to be submitted for release, unless and until
the message has been rejected by the releasing officer.
If the message specified is awaiting release, the system
shall continue with the sequence: format line G, format
line M, send the request for deletion to the supervisor,
and return to rest mode with respect to the terminal.
An entry shall be made in the system log.
24.3.5 M̲e̲s̲s̲a̲g̲e̲ ̲h̲a̲s̲ ̲b̲e̲e̲n̲ ̲R̲e̲l̲e̲a̲s̲e̲d̲
If a message has been released by the releasing officer,
then the system shall not automatically delete the
message but instead send a deletion request to the
supervisor. The supervisor shall take action to delete
the message. The procedure shall follow the sequence:
output format line H and M, send the request for deletion
to the supervisor and return to rest mode with respect
to the terminal. The variable T1 shall be composed
as described in section 2.2.1.2 and shall be the time
of release of the message. An entry shall be made in
the system log.
24.4 F̲O̲R̲M̲A̲T̲ ̲L̲I̲N̲E̲S̲ ̲I̲,̲ ̲J̲,̲ ̲(̲D̲)̲ ̲a̲n̲d̲ ̲K̲
These format lines constitute the operator interrogation
sequence to ascertain that the request is being made
by an authorised person. The sequence and composition
of each format line shall be as described for format
lines B, C, F, and G of Format I (See Section 14).
The procedure shall be as described for that format
except that when a valid entry is made in format line
J (format line C of Format I), the system shall continue
by transmitting format lines L and M of the present
format. In case of invalid entry a system log entry
is required.

This format will be used by the release terminal operator
to obtain a summary report of the status of messages
submitted to him for relase since the last periodic
status report (Format Q1). Reference should also be
made to Figs. 27a and 27b.

The operator enters this line. When the system is in
rest mode with respect to the terminal, it shall respond
by transmitting the format lines B to H as applicable.
These are identical to those of Format Q1 described
