CHANNEL
UNIT CONTROL
PANEL
…02……02…CAMPS
1̲.̲ ̲ ̲I̲N̲T̲R̲O̲D̲U̲C̲T̲I̲O̲N̲
This ECP is issued to introduce a Channel Unit Control
Panel (CUCP), which provides the possibility of manually
overriding certain Watchdog signals for maintenance
and diagnostics purposes.
The Channel Unit contains I/O controllers, which are
all connected electrically to both Data Bus A and Data
Bus B, but only assigned to one of these. The assignment
is a result of a "Take Ownership" command issued by
one of the connected PUs.
To prevent unintended I/O controller claims in case
of PU-failure, the Watchdog is able to disable one
of the bus interfaces on all the I/O controllers in
the Channel Unit. As a supplement to the Watchdog
control, the CUCP provides the possibility of manually
disabling the buses, which is necessary in case of
Watchdog failure.
Furthermore, the CUCP is able to override the disable
signals for single I/O-Controllers, which is helpful
when off-line maintenance and diagnostics programs
are executed.
2̲.̲ ̲ ̲F̲U̲N̲C̲T̲I̲O̲N̲A̲L̲ ̲D̲E̲S̲C̲R̲I̲P̲T̲I̲O̲N̲
The CUCP is a front module, which controls the bus
disable inputs of a number of I/O-controllers in a
Channel Unit (ref. fig. 2-1).
The state of the resulting disable signals is based
on both the Watchdog disable signals and the setting
of a number of switches on the front panel.
The disable principle is shown in fig. 2-2.
Fig. 2-1
The signals marked "*" are controlled by switches on
the CUCP front panel.
NOTE: "ALLOW ENABLE (A)" and "ALLOW ENABLE (B)" can
not both be active at the same time.

2.1 I̲/̲O̲-̲C̲O̲N̲T̲R̲O̲L̲L̲E̲R̲ ̲I̲/̲F̲
The CUCP is able to control:
3 DISK CONTROLLERS
5 LTUs (CAMPS Max. is 4 LTUs in one CU)
1 FLOPPY DISK CONTROLLER
The control and status signals on the I/O-controllers,
which are applicable are listed below:
EAD(L): External A-bus Disable
EBD(L): External B-bus Disable
ASEL(L): A-bus Selected
BSEL(L): B-bus Selected
2.2 W̲A̲T̲C̲H̲D̲O̲G̲/̲C̲C̲A̲ ̲I̲/̲F̲
The Watchdog control and status signals from/to the
CCA are the following:
DEV3(L): Disable A-bus
DEV4(L): Disable B-bus
M1(L): Take Ownership Auto
2.3 C̲U̲C̲P̲
The layout of the CUCP front panel is divided into
two groups:
a) Overall control area
b) 9 individual control areas
a) The features of the overall control area are (ref.
fig. 2.3-3):
1) AUTO CONTROL
2) DIS (CU BUS A)
3) AUTO (CU BUS A)
4) DIS/AUTO switch (CU BUS A)
5) DIS (CU BUS B)
Bus B equivalent to 2.
6) AUTO (CU BUS B)
Bus B equivalent to 3.
7) DIS/AUTO Switch (CU BUS B) Bus B equivalent
to 4.
The control principle is shown in Fig. 2.3-1
Fig. 2.3-1
b) I̲n̲d̲i̲v̲i̲d̲u̲a̲l̲ ̲C̲o̲n̲t̲r̲o̲l̲ ̲A̲r̲e̲a̲s̲
Each of the 9 control areas comprises the following
functions (ref. fig. 2.3-3):
8) BUS A
9) BUS B
10) Switch
AAEN (A-Allow enable):
Both Watchdog and CUCP disable of bus A are
inhibited.
BAEN (B-Allow enable):
Both Watchdog and CUCP disable of bus B are
inhibited.
AUTO:
No individual CUCP interference.
The individual control principle is shown in fig. 2.3-2.

2.4 P̲O̲W̲E̲R̲ ̲S̲U̲P̲P̲L̲Y̲
The CUCP is supplied from both bus A and bus B in order
to maintain operation in case of power failure on one
of the buses.
The power lines are combined in an OR-circuit, which
also incorporates a current limiter function in order
to protect the power system against module short circuits.
3̲.̲ ̲ ̲C̲U̲C̲P̲ ̲I̲N̲S̲T̲A̲L̲L̲A̲T̲I̲O̲N̲
When the CUCP is installed in one of positions 7 to
21 of the front crate, a number of signal cables have
to be connected to the J3-connector.
a) Each I/O-controller is connected by 6 wires to
the CUCP.
b) DEV3(L) and DEV4(L) from CCA are connected to the
CUCP by 4 wires.
c) M1(L) from CCA is connected to the CUCP by 2 wires.
The installation principle is shown in fig. 3-1.

4̲.̲ ̲ ̲E̲L̲E̲C̲T̲R̲I̲C̲A̲L̲ ̲S̲P̲E̲C̲I̲F̲I̲C̲A̲T̲I̲O̲N̲S̲
a) The M1(L)-output is specified as follows:
Active: V…0f…0…0e… 9V, I…0f…0…0e… 3 mA
Passive: V…0f…0…0e… 3V, I…0f…0…0e… 15 mA
All other outputs are equivalent to LS-TTL drivers.
b) All inputs load with the equivalent of one LS-TTL
input.
c) Power consumption:
5V: I…0f…L…0e… 0,8 A
+12V I…0f…L…0e… 30 mA
-12V: I…0f…L…0e… = 0 A
