1.1 The LKSAA system consists of standard Christian Rovsing
A/S hardware and software elements enhanced with special
features required by Auswartiges Amt (AA) in Bonn.
The basic system is shown in figure 1.1-1 Hardware
System Overview.
It consists of the following main elements:
- A dualized CAMPS system for message switching
- A dualized X-net for crypto control
- A dualized X-net for radio control
1.2 C̲E̲N̲T̲R̲A̲L̲ ̲C̲O̲M̲M̲U̲N̲I̲C̲A̲T̲I̲O̲N̲S̲ ̲S̲Y̲S̲T̲E̲M̲ ̲(̲Z̲V̲A̲)̲
The Central Communications System supports:
- User and supervisor terminals (CR16 commercial
and Tempest versions)
- Color monitors for status information
- High and medium speed printers
- Document printing systems
- Optical character reader
- Tape reader/punchers
- Color graphic terminal (CR-16)
- Teletex terminal
- Interfaces to crypto units, crypto system and radio
control system.
It serves 40 leased telegraph lines, 10 telex lines,
6 teletex lines and 6 radio channels via up to 90 customer
supplied crypto units (on-line and off-line) and microprocessor
controlled switching matrix.
Automatic call set-up with by-pass of crypto units
is provided for telex and teletex circuits.
Switching to crypto mode for transfer of messages is
ensured through the use of CAMPS security features.
The Central Communications System shall handle a number
of special message formats such as:
- AA standard format
- ACP-127 format
- BMI (Bundesministerium fur Innen) format
- WUI (Western Union International) format
- COREU (EEC) format
- Radio teletype format
All formats shall be converted to or from the internally
used AA format, which consists of mandatory header
information such as start code address, priority, date-time
group, channel serial number, classification etc.
Additionally the system shall handle interactive communications
with a BMI message switch.
1.3 C̲R̲Y̲P̲T̲O̲ ̲S̲Y̲S̲T̲E̲M̲
The Crypto System is composed of a dualized X-net with
two CR16 terminals used as net controllers. The crypto
system controls both off-line and on-line crypto units.
The crypto system loads the keys to the proper cryptos
upon commands from the Central Communications System.
It stores 400 keys for use by the 90 crypto units,
which it controls. Keep-alive messages will constantly
be exchanged with the central communications system
in order to secure that non-authorized programmes cannot
be entered into the crypto system. All transactions
will be logged on a log-pointer.
1.4 R̲A̲D̲I̲O̲ ̲C̲O̲N̲T̲R̲O̲L̲ ̲S̲Y̲S̲T̲E̲M̲
The Radio Control System consists of a dualized X-net
with four dualized X-net extensions for control of
two remote radio transmitter sites and two remote radio
receiver sites as shown in figure 1.4-1.
The radio control system includes the following functions
performed automatically or from one or more of six
control positions equipped with CR16 color terminals:
- Supervision of HF radio equipment
- Tuning of transmitters and receivers
- Switching of reciever antennas
- Rotation of transmitter antennas
- Allocation of messages to transmitters
- Detection of identification of message originator
- Set-up of HF links via morse keying, FEC or ARQ
units.
- Supervision of HF link quality
- Control of message flow
- Selection of bandwidth and modulation type
- Voice transmission/reception
One of the operator positions will be used as supervisor
position for the other terminals. A log-printer is
supplied for use for dialogue with radio control operators
in German embassies and for logging of statistic data
concerning the individual HF links.
2̲ ̲ ̲I̲N̲S̲T̲A̲L̲L̲A̲T̲I̲O̲N̲
The LKSAA system will be installed in a new building
in a large screened room with optical filtering of
all lines (customer supplied). Eight of the CR16 terminals
will be located outside the screened room in local
offices.
