1̲ ̲ ̲S̲C̲O̲P̲E̲
The Danish National Defence and NATO is presently procuring
a number of highly sophisticated data processing systems
for Data Communication, Message Handling and Command
and Control; all to be installed at various sites in
Denmark.
This plan presents an integrated approach to handle
the logistics functions that arise in connection with
the procurements. The plan proposes a combined Software
Maintenance and Development Center to be established
in Jutland. The centre will be equipped with representative
test bed configurations for each type of system to
enable software development and testing.
2̲ ̲ ̲O̲B̲J̲E̲C̲T̲I̲V̲E̲
The objective of placing the Software development center
in Jutland is manifold.
First of all, the centre will be close to the NATO
Headquarters in BALTAP and also close to many of the
local headquarters.
Secondly, the centre will include many of the new systems
being installed in other NATO countries. By an early
establishment of a Software Devlopment Centre in Jutland,
Denmark has a strong argument for becoming a major
centre for Defense Software Development.
Thirdly, Jutland presently has a higher availability
of skilled unemployed Computer Scientists and Software
Engineers than other parts of Denmark. A centre in
Jutland will therefore be able to employ stable staff.

Christian Rovsing A/S is heavely involved in developing
and installing many of the abovementioned systems.
All of the systems require training and software maintenance
and development facilities; facilities that Christian
Rovsing A/S has contracted to establish and start up.
Furthermore, Christian Rovsing A/S is presently bidding
for a number of additional systems using similar equipment,
that likewise calls for an integrated software test
bed.
Christian Rovsing A/S, therefore, is planning to establish
a software development centre in Jutland that can perform
the necessary software maintenance and development
of modification and new features.
The centre will be equipped with the necessary hardware
and software to act as test bed for all the envolved
systems.
a) F̲I̲K̲S̲
Maintenance and development of the FIKS system
calls for a software test bed as follows:
- MEDE, NODE and System Control Center, all consisting
of CR80 modules.
- FIKS software system
- FIKS Test Drive System consisting of CR80 hardware
and software
b) C̲A̲M̲P̲S̲
During the contract negotiations, Christian Rovsing
A/S proposed to establish a CAMPS Software maintenance
facility at BALTAP or at a special software development
site close to BALTAP. Futhermore, BALTAP will be
the second installed CAMPS site, which is planned
as the test bed for some of the longer term CAMPS
software tests.
The CAMPS software maintenance facility would include:
- A representative CAMPS site consisting of CR80
modules and the CAMPS Software Package.
- A CR80 Test Drive System that can provide a
pseudo random operational environment capable
of performing both functional tests, performance
test, and error detection and recovery tests.
c) N̲E̲C̲ ̲C̲C̲I̲S̲
Christian Rovsing A/S is presently working on a
bid together with Burroughs Corporation for NEC
CCIS. The configuration will be based on a CR80
data communication and display processor configuration
and a Burroughs Main Frame.
The Software test bed for these systems would be
installed at the Software development centre with
the possibility of sharing equipment between the
CAMPS test bed and the NEC CCIS (test drive system
and CR80 modules).
At the time of NEC CCIS installation in Denmark,
Christian Rovsing A/S is likely to have replaced
its present dual B6700 system in Herlev with a
new Burroughs configuration equivalent to the NEC
CCIS offer. This adds a further advantage of placing
the Software Development Centre in Denmark as both
expertize and back-up facilites would be available.
d) F̲O̲D̲ ̲C̲C̲I̲S̲
Christian Rovsing A/S is presently bidding for
the FOD CCIS system.
The proposed FOD CCIS configuration is made up
of CR80 modules equivalent to CAMPS and if properly
planned, the test bed configuration for FOD CCIS
could share hardware modules with the CAMPS test
bed. It is seldom necessary to utilize the full
dual configuration in CAMPS and FOD CCIS for software
maintenance and the modules of the redundant parts
could therefore be shared with other software test
beds to lower the investment at software development
centre.

To expedite the plans for establishing a Software Development
Centre in Jutland, Christian Rovsing A/S has contacted
a number of companies to clarify the interest for a
combined Danish industry effort.
Christian Rovsing A/S has invited participation from
the following companies and organizations to participate
in the centre.
- I/S Datacentralen with whom Christian Rovsing A/S
has coorporated on a number of large management
information systems. I/S Datacentralen is teaming
with Christian Rovsing A/S for the FOD-CCIS project
- FOFT
- TERMA
- Dansk Datamatik Center that presently are developing
an ADA compiler for the CR80 Computer in cooperation
with Christian Rovsing A/S
- Christian Rovsing A/S that further has an agreement
with Burroughs on software maintenance on the NEC
CCIS system if they are successful in obtaining
the order.
The Software Development Centre would initially be
equipped with a complete FIKS Configuration and the
associated FIKS Test Drive System.
All Subsequent Systems should thereafter be carefully
evaluated to identify where hardware could be shared
with the existing systems and modules to ensure cost
effectiveness.
Christian Rovsing A/S presently have supplied or holds
contracts for the supply of 243 CR80 computer systems
destined for military projects throughout NATO. The
company is also heavily engaged in the ADA compiler
design for Europe. ADA is expected to become the preferred
language for defence contracts and is heavily supported
by the US Department of Defence.
Christian Rovsing A/S is also in an internationally
leading position as regards secure operating systems
for use in defence projects.
The marriage of these skills at a site, which at this
point in time is planned to contain three different
NATO defence computer systems, implemented with the
CR80 computer, is expected to have a major contribution
towords the strengthening of Danish defence in the
area of software.
