1 I̲N̲T̲R̲O̲D̲U̲C̲T̲I̲O̲N̲
1.1 S̲C̲O̲P̲E̲
This document specifies the Civil Works Requirements
related to the Protocol Converter (PC) and shows how
all the major assemblies of the PC equipment are to
be installed and integrated.
The customer (Host Nation) and the PC Contractor (Christian
Rovsing A/S) are responsible for accomplishing the
works as specified in this document.
After review and approval by SHAPE and ACE COMSEC,
the document will be the baseline for the site preparation
and installation effort.
The enclosed As-To-Be-Built drawings will be updated
after the installation is completed to reflect the
AS-BUILT situation. Any change made to the ATBB drawings
during installation must be approved by ACE COMSEC
and SHAPE.
The preparation of this document is based on the site,
data collected by SHAPE and given to CR per CAMPS log
723 PC: 011.

Sections 1 to 5 provide a brief description of the
drawings in section 6. Section 6 contains typical equipment

1.3 R̲E̲F̲E̲R̲E̲N̲C̲E̲S̲
PROTOCOL CONVERTER/HARDWARE ASSEMBLY BREAKDOWN

This document will assist the installation team in
reassembling the PC equipment after transportation
to the site.
1.4 S̲Y̲S̲T̲E̲M̲ ̲D̲I̲A̲G̲R̲A̲M̲
Drawing 1-187 lists all the CR provided equipment at
site 03, shows the system signal cabling and also defines
the basic responsibilities for this cabling.
The PC equipment assembly is identified with a unit
number and all interconnecting signal cables with a
cable reference number (W).
Cable numbers are also allocated for the auxiliary
connections to be provided by Host Nation.
1.5 S̲I̲T̲E̲ ̲I̲M̲P̲L̲E̲M̲E̲N̲T̲A̲T̲I̲O̲N̲ ̲S̲C̲H̲E̲D̲U̲L̲E̲
The PC equipment will be delivered to site and installed
together with the CAMPS equipment for mainsite 05.
The CAMPS mainsite 05 installation is scheduled to
start April 1983.
The following site implementation schedule is planned:
September, 1982 Issue of As-To-Be-Built Drawings
February, 1983 Site Preparation Works Completed
March, 1983 Site Verification Completed
April, 1983 Start of Installation
1.6 R̲E̲G̲U̲L̲A̲T̲I̲O̲N̲S̲
a) The converter installation shall conform with the
relevant requirements for automatic processing
devices contained in AMSG 719B.
The modification of the converter equipment room
for equipment installation with regard to power,
ground, ground distribution, signal cabling, airconditioning
etc. must, therefore, be carried out in accordance
with AMSG 719B.
b) The power and ground installation is governed by
national power and safety regulations.
2 R̲E̲S̲P̲O̲N̲S̲I̲B̲I̲L̲I̲T̲I̲E̲S̲
The following responsibilities and interfaces are defined
for site preparations and the site integration of the
PC system (ref. drawing 1-187).
2.1 H̲O̲S̲T̲ ̲N̲A̲T̲I̲O̲N̲
Host Nation is responsible for:
a) Modifying the allocated PC equipment room for installation
of the converter equipment (i.e. power, grounding
distribution, airconditioning etc). See chapter
3 and drawing 01-187.
b) Providing and installing all conduits/cable trays
for signal cables in the PC equipment room. See
chapter 3.
c) Preparing the appropriate rooms for the maintenance
terminal and off-line Protocol Converter installation.
See chapters 3 and 4 and drawing 01-187.
d) Determining routing and providing and installing
all ducts/cable trays for signal cables between
the maintenance terminal position and the PC rack,
and between the off-line protocol converter and
the PC rack.
e) Providing and installing the interconnecting cables
between the PC IDF and other systems/equipment.
PC Contractor will terminate the cables in the
PC IDF. Host Nation will terminate the other end.

2.2 P̲C̲ ̲C̲O̲N̲T̲R̲A̲C̲T̲O̲R̲
The PC Contractor is responsible for:
a) Providing, installing, and terminating optofibre
cable for the maintenance VDU.
b) Physical installation of all PC Contractor provided
equipment in the equipment room.
c) Connecting power and ground to all PC Contractor
provided equipment.
d) Termination and connection of all signal cables
to PC Contractor provided equipment.
3 P̲R̲O̲T̲O̲C̲O̲L̲ ̲C̲O̲N̲V̲E̲R̲T̲E̲R̲ ̲R̲O̲O̲M̲
This section describes the PC rack installation in
the existing CAMPS room.
See drawing 1-187.
3.1 S̲I̲T̲E̲ ̲P̲R̲E̲P̲A̲R̲A̲T̲I̲O̲N̲ ̲
The preparation works by Host Nation include:
- Distribution of power to the J-box below the PC
rack as specified on drawing 01-187.
- Filtered (pink) power 220V/50Hz with the characteristics
per table 6.3.1 is required.
- Installation of signal cables and ducts up to (below)
the PC rack. The ducts will be terminated in J-boxes
to suit the CR conduit installations. See drawing
1-187.
- All signal cables are to be temporarily labelled
with the allocated cable reference number (W) and
left with a length of 3 meters outside the cable
ducts/J-boxes to reach the connection points inside
the rack. See drawings 1-187 and 1-188.
- Floor cutout at the PC-rack for cable entry as
specified below.
The Site preparation by Host Nation concerning PC-equipment
installation will be inspected by CR as part of the
CAMPS mainsite 05 verification.
3.2 F̲L̲O̲O̲R̲S̲
a) The PC-rack requires bottom cable entrance.
The PC-rack is, therefore, to be installed on a
plinth or in a room with false floors. The minimum
height of the false floor/plinth must be 250 mm
(see drawing 1-188).
b) The equipment load calculated from table 6.1.1
will be:

The distributed load is considerably lower. If
a work space of 1.3 m in front and 1 m at rear
is included the load will be:

Adding personnel (2x75 kg) and test equipment (50

c) The required floor cutout for cable entry to the
PC-rack is shown on drawing no 1-188.
Note that the PC-rack has 4 levellers of [ 30 mm,
which are located close to the penetrations. The
design load from each leveller is 90 kg concentrated

3.3 E̲Q̲U̲I̲P̲M̲E̲N̲T̲ ̲I̲N̲S̲T̲A̲L̲L̲A̲T̲I̲O̲N̲

The EMI shielded PC rack will be shipped as assembled
at the CR plant.
Equipment data - see table 6.1.1.
The four levelers at the bottom of the rack are to
be adjusted to ensure equal weight distribution.
The internal rack cabling required at the site is shown
in ref (1), The Hardware Assembly Breakdown.
3.4 P̲O̲W̲E̲R̲ ̲C̲O̲N̲N̲E̲C̲T̲I̲O̲N̲
See drawing 1-188.
The installation team will provide and install the
metallic conduit between the power J-box below the
rack and perform the equipment power connection.
Note that the ACE COMSEC approved grounding concept
requires the metallic power conduit to be in electrical
contact with the PC rack only. The power conduit, therefore,
is to be insulated from the filtered PDB.
The power cable and the insulated secure/safety ground
will be connected to the PLF on the front of the rack.
Drawing 1-188 gives details of the conduit installation
and the termination of the different power wires in
the PLF.
3.5 S̲I̲G̲N̲A̲L̲ ̲C̲A̲B̲L̲I̲N̲G̲
This sub-section describes all external signal cables
interfaced to the PC rack.
The interface for metallic cables to the IDF/Filter
box is described in para 3.5.4.
3.5.1 V̲e̲r̲i̲f̲i̲c̲a̲t̲i̲o̲n̲
The metallic cables for the interconnections to the
PC Filter Box are planned to be installed by Host Nation
prior to the start of the CR installation. These cables
will be temporarily labelled with the designated cable
number for identification. Verification inspection
information will be contained in the Site Verification
Report.
3.5.2 C̲o̲n̲d̲u̲i̲t̲ ̲I̲n̲s̲t̲a̲l̲l̲a̲t̲i̲o̲n̲
CR will provide and install the signal cable interface
conduits required for the IDF/Filter box.
See details on drawing 1-188.
The ferrous duct for the metallic cables will be electrically
connected to the PC rack via the interface conduit.
3.5.3 T̲e̲r̲m̲i̲n̲a̲t̲i̲o̲n̲ ̲o̲f̲ ̲O̲p̲t̲o̲ ̲C̲a̲b̲l̲e̲s̲
The opto cable passes through the IDF/Filter box and
terminates into an individual opto module in the front
of the adapter-crate. See drawing 1-189.
The adapter-crate reference number is tabulated in
drawing 1-187. Drawing 1-189 shows the location of
the opto and L/L adapter modules, internal rack cabling
and details of the opto cable termination in the opto
module.
The opto cable consists of two fibres, one white -
one black. At the PC rack interface, the white fibre
is dedicated for receive signals and will be connected
to the jack marked "in" on the opto modules. The black
fibre accordingly has been dedicated for transmit signals
and is to be connected to the "out" jack.
The opto fibres will be terminated by CR.
3.5.4 T̲e̲r̲m̲i̲n̲a̲t̲i̲o̲n̲ ̲o̲f̲ ̲M̲e̲t̲a̲l̲l̲i̲c̲ ̲C̲a̲b̲l̲e̲s̲
The metallic cable interface point is the Filter box
located at the rear bottom of the PC rack. See drawing
1-188 and -189.
Cable entry is via port 3 in the bottom of the rack.
CR will provide connector and terminate the interface
cables at the filter box.
The metallic cables are provided and installed by Host
nation.
The filter box is equipped with 25 pin connectors as
specified in drawing 1-189.
Mating connector type and pin assignments/wire lists
for the different types of channels is specified in
table 6.2.1.
The jackfield layout and details of the connector installation,
including the required cable shield grounding, are
shown in drawing 1-189.
3.5.5 C̲a̲b̲l̲e̲ ̲I̲d̲e̲n̲t̲i̲f̲i̲c̲a̲t̲i̲o̲n̲
All external interface cables to the PC rack will be
permanently labelled with their allocated cable ref
No (WXX) by PC contractor.
To facilitate the identification of the cables, the
labels will be installed close to the connectors.
3.6 V̲E̲N̲T̲I̲L̲A̲T̲I̲O̲N̲ ̲A̲N̲D̲ ̲C̲O̲O̲L̲I̲N̲G̲ ̲R̲E̲Q̲U̲I̲R̲E̲M̲E̲N̲T̲S̲
a) As all rack mounted equipment has internal blowers
using ambient room air for forced ventilation,
the CAMPS system does not require any direct cooling.
b) The equipment is designed to operate in a closed
environment with a temperature range of 10…0e…o…0f…C to
40…0e…o…0f…C and with a max change in temperature of 10…0e…o…0f…C
per hour.
c) Ambient room air for forced ventilation is drawn
into the crate assemblies through the filters in
the front doors. The air is deflected upwards and
leaves the cabinet through the top panel grills
(see fig. 3.6.1).
d) Data for the heat dissipation of the equipment
is found in table 6.1.1.

This section describes the installation of the VDU
allocated as the maintenance terminal.
Drawing 1-187 identifies the maintenance terminal by
unit number, designated cable number, and room location.
4.1 L̲O̲C̲A̲T̲I̲O̲N̲
The location of the terminal as shown in drawing 1-187
has been specified by local command.
The Host Nation preparation works related to the maintenance
terminal include:
- Provision of power and ground for the terminal
position as per drawing 1-190.
- Provision of terminal table/trolley.
4.2 C̲A̲B̲L̲I̲N̲G̲
The opto cable, protected by a rubber tube, will be
run by PC contractor along the wall above the false
floor in order to make the trolley movable.
Contractor will terminate and connect the opto cable.
4.2.1 T̲e̲r̲m̲i̲n̲a̲t̲i̲o̲n̲ ̲o̲f̲ ̲O̲p̲t̲o̲ ̲C̲a̲b̲l̲e̲
See drawing 1-190.
The opto-cable leaves the PC rack through the port
1 waveguide as shown. The opto cable will be protected
against physical damage by a rubber grommet or similar
device and enters the VDU via the waveguide port.
The opto cable connection to the optical modem card
is shown in drawing 01-190. The white fibre is to be
connected to the transmitter jack ("out") of the opto
module and the black fibre to the receive jack ("in").
4.2.2 C̲a̲b̲l̲e̲ ̲I̲d̲e̲n̲t̲i̲f̲i̲c̲a̲t̲i̲o̲n̲
Permanent cable identificaton labels at the rear of
the terminal are to be installed as described in para
3.4.5 and as indicated in drawing 1-190.
4.3 T̲E̲R̲M̲I̲N̲A̲L̲ ̲I̲N̲S̲T̲A̲L̲L̲A̲T̲I̲O̲N̲
The terminal is to be installed on a Host Nation provided
table/trolley. See drawing 1-187.
4.3.1 P̲o̲w̲e̲r̲ ̲C̲o̲n̲n̲e̲c̲t̲i̲o̲n̲

The VDU has plug connection. The terminal plug may
need to be replaced by CR to fit Host Nation standard
outlets.
The power outlet will be switched or unswitched as
required by local regulations. A 3 pin outlet with
line, neutral, and safety ground is required as specified
on drawing 1-187.
4.3.2 O̲p̲t̲o̲ ̲C̲a̲b̲l̲e̲ ̲C̲o̲n̲n̲e̲c̲t̲i̲o̲n̲

This section describes the connection of the off-line
converter and other systems requiring an electrical
signal interface to the PC.
5.1 I̲N̲T̲E̲R̲C̲O̲N̲N̲E̲C̲T̲I̲O̲N̲S̲
As seen from the system diagram drawing 1-187, the
following connections are applicable for site 03:
a) PC - CAMPS
b) PC - CAMPS spare
c) PC - WWMCCS
d) PC - WWMCCS spare
e) PC - SCARS II
f) PC - SCARS II spare
g) PC - WWMCCS
h) PC - OFF-LINE PC
5.1.1 C̲a̲b̲l̲i̲n̲g̲ ̲a̲n̲d̲ ̲T̲e̲r̲m̲i̲n̲a̲t̲i̲o̲n̲s̲
Host Nation is responsible for all cabling out of the
PC IDF/Filter box.
Pin assignment and wire lists for the different types
of channels are specified in table 6.2.1.
Cable terminations in the IDF/Filter box are shown
in drawing 1-189. CR will terminate and connect all
cables in the IDF.
5.2 L̲O̲C̲A̲T̲I̲O̲N̲ ̲O̲F̲ ̲T̲H̲E̲ ̲O̲F̲F̲-̲L̲I̲N̲E̲ ̲C̲O̲N̲V̲E̲R̲T̲E̲R̲
The location of the off-line PC shown in drawing 1-187
has been specified by Host Nation.
The Host Nation preparation works related to the off-line
PC include:
- Provision of interface cable from the PC rack via
the J-box to the chosen location of the off-line
PC.
- Provision of power and ground as per drawing 1-187.
- Provision of table/trolley.
5.2.1 O̲f̲f̲-̲L̲i̲n̲e̲ ̲P̲C̲ ̲I̲n̲s̲t̲a̲l̲l̲a̲t̲i̲o̲n̲
The off-line PC is to be installed on a Host Nation
provided table/trolley.
5.3 C̲A̲B̲L̲E̲ ̲I̲D̲E̲N̲T̲I̲F̲I̲C̲A̲T̲I̲O̲N̲
Permanent cable identification labels will be installed
as described in para 3.4.5 and indicated in drawing
1-190.
5.3.1 P̲o̲w̲e̲r̲ ̲C̲o̲n̲n̲e̲c̲t̲i̲o̲n̲
The off-line PC has plug connection. The plug may need
to be replaced by CR to fit Host Nation standard outlets.

Table 6.2.1 gives recommendation as to type of mating
connector for the metallic cable interface in the filter
box and specifies the pin assigment and signal reference.

Table 6.3.1 gives the input power characteristics for
the PC equipment.
