.TH OSIMIC 1 "December 1988" .SH NAME osimic \- OSI microscope: human user interface to the Management Information Base .SH SYNOPSIS .B osimic [ <host> ] .SH DESCRIPTION Osimic is a human user interface that allows browsing through the management information tree and enables the manipulation of attribute values. It is implemented using the SunView package and may be run only on Sun workstations running SunTools. .LP The targeted managed system is selected from the command line. If no argument is supplied, a list of hosts on which management services are supported is displayed and the selection may be done interactively. .LP After the microscope is invoked, a new window appears divided in two parts. The lower part of the window is used to display the attributes of a managed object or the ids of its subordinate objects. The slide bar may be used to scroll the display as necessary. The upper part of the window comprises a set of buttons and a display of the current position in the management information tree in textual form. The buttons, if clicked with the mouse, trigger the following actions: .LP .B VIEW displays the attributes of a managed object identified by the current position in the management information tree. .LP .B LIST displays the ids of the subordinate objects of the level below. .LP .B UP changes the position in the tree moving up a level. .LP .B DOWN may be used after a LIST operation to change the position in the tree moving down a level. A subordinate object must be chosen first, highlighting its entry with the mouse before the actual button is clicked. .LP .B MODIFY may be used after a VIEW operation to alter the value of an attribute. The attribute must be chosen first, highlighting its entry with the mouse before the actual button is clicked. This causes an editing window to appear and the attribute value may be edited. After the value has been edited, the RETURN key should be hit to validate it. The attribute value may be added, removed or altered clicking the .B ADD, .B REMOVE or .B REPLACE button respectively. The modify operation may be aborted clicking .B ABORT. .LP .B QUIT causes the microscope to terminate. .LP In the case of errors, an error message is displayed at the top of the window. .SH SEE ALSO UCL Internal Note IN2397
