.ul
range
\- is an mcp abstraction. A
.ul
range
is simply an list contiguous uids. Each
.ul
range
has the following attributes:
.nf
.sp
.in +1
\(bu Name
\(bu First uid
\(bu Last uid
\(bu Mode (\fI"shared"\fR or \fI"exclusive"\fR)
.in -1
.sp
.fi
The
name corresponds to the name of an existing group. New users that
are created with a base gid that maps to the name of a group that has
a corresponding
.ul
range
will have its uid chosen from that range of uids. If there are no unused
uids in the assigned
.ul
range
then a uid will be used from a range that has a
.ul
"shared"
mode. If still no free uid can be found then mcp will search for a free uid
in the holes that no
.ul
range
covers. If no unused uid can be found at this point, mcp will give
up and cry out against you and your lousy planning.
