.TH RANGES 5
.SH NAME
ranges \- mcp numerical user ID ranges file
.SH SYNOPSIS
RANGEFILE
.SH DESCRIPTION
.I Ranges
contain the default user ID (uid) ranges that
.I mcp(l)
will use when creating accounts either in
.B add-user
or
.B load-file.
These ranges are indexed by group. The file format is:
.sp
group-name <sep> from <sep> to <sep> mode <nl>
.sp
.I <sep>
is 1 or more
whitespace characters (exempting newline).
.PP
.I Group-name
is the name of the
group (in
.B /etc/group).
.PP
.I From
and
.I to
are integers which give the uid range,
.I from \- to
inclusive.
Uids are searched
.I from
to
.I to,
so the direction of uid searches may be reversed by making
.I from > to.
.PP
.I Mode
is either
.I shared
or
.I exclusive.
If the mode is
.I shared
when another group runs out of uids or a uid is needed for a user in a group
which has no assigned range, uids in
.I shared
ranges may be used. If the mode is
.I exclusive
only users in that particular group
may use uids from that range.
