    Normally one uses only the following characters: lower case letters,
    digits, and a hyphen ( - ).  The name should not be longer than about
    10 characters (6 for IBM compatability...).

    If your machine is connected to the outside world (via uucp), choose
    a unique name made out of the name of your organization.  Avoid 'cute'
    names - they are all already used up (there are thousands of machines
    on the unix net).
