The present issue of WordStar 3.0 has been adapted specially for use on your RC700 Microcomputer System. WordStar runs under control of the CP/M, operating system which is assumed to be installed on your RC700 Microcomputer System. The WordStar package you have received contains the following: - This manual "WordStar for the RC700 Microcomputer System, Installation Guide". - MicroPro's documentation of WordStar: "WordStar, General Information Manual" "WordStar, Reference Manual" "WordStar, Installation Manual". - A diskette containing the WordStar system. Do not write on the original distribution diskette as it is your master copy and serves as last back-up in case of grave errors. \f F_ 2_._ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _I_N_S_T_A_L_L_A_T_I_O_N_ 2. Start by making a copy of the original WordStar distribution dis- kette, see ref. 1, BACKUP, and continue in the following way: 1) Transfer all WordStar files to a CP/M system diskette by means of either PIP or TRANSFER. 2) Call the INSTALL program which will carry out the installation of WordStar. 3) Answer Y (Yes) to all questions of the type: OK (Y/N):. Type U (Unchanged) as answer to all menues: Terminal, Printer, Communications Protocol and Printer driver. 4) WordStar will be started automatically and the following text will appear: RC700 Microcomputer System Teletype-like printer No communications protocol CP/M list output driver (LST:) A few seconds later the first WordStar menu is displayed on the screen and the standard system is ready for use. \f F_ 3_._ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _K_E_Y_B_O_A_R_D_ 3. The WordStar installed only makes use of the standard keys on the keyboard, i.e. all alphabetic, numeric and special characters. Included on the distribution diskette you will find a program, EXTEND, which must be executed, if you want to utilize the special keys on the RC700 keyboard. Appendix B contains a list of the special keys and their functions in WordStar. EXTEND must be executed a_f_t_e_r_ the installation of WordStar, and the only information needed is the name of the WordStar command file, normally WS. EXTEND applies only to the latest production of the RC721 and RC722 keyboards, i.e. RC721 production number after KBU723 serial No 50 and RC722 production number after KBU722 serial No 383, see ref. 1, appendix D. Example of a call: A> EXTEND WS Due to an error in WordStar 3.0 the following sequence may cause WordStar to break down: type R ; "run a program" command type ctrl U ; cancel command do anything ; normal operation type X ; exit command The error occurs only after use of the EXTEND program. Remedy: Replace the cancel command with the name of a small (dummy) program, e.g. STAT. \f F_ 4_._ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _S_T_A_R_T_I_N_G_ _W_O_R_D_S_T_A_R_ 4. Once installed, WordStar is started by typing the name of the WordStar command file, normally WS. \f F_ 5_._ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _S_C_R_E_E_N_ _C_O_N_T_R_O_L_ 5. The addressing mode of WordStar is horizontal, vertical position (CONFI; cursor addressing 1: H, V). \f F_ 6_._ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _P_R_I_N_T_E_R_S_ 6. The WordStar system is provided with a set of standard printer options, which make it possible to use almost any type of printer. The printer options chosen can be changed during the installation procedure, if the printer makes special demands on the communica- tions protocol and/or the printer driver, please see ref. 1, appendix F, ref. 2 chapter 7 and the technical specifications of the printer. The following printers may be used without changing the printer driver or the communications protocol: OKI 83A, Matrix Printer Qume Sprint 5 NEC Spinwriter 7710/7720 Thimble Printer To ensure full utilization of the printer facilities, choose option U for OKI, F for Qume and G for NEC in the printer menu. Choosing option F or G, INSTALL will advise you to select a special communications protocol, ignore this message and type U. \f F_ A_._ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _R_E_F_E_R_E_N_C_E_S_ A. 1 RCSL No 42-i1995: CP/M for RC700 Microcomputer System, User's Guide 2 WordStar, Installation Manual \f F_ B_._ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _F_U_N_C_T_I_O_N_ _K_E_Y_S_ B.
