 First run the patch, by typing the following at your prompt (%):

	% patch transfig-V2R1-pl1

 If it should pause and ask you for the name of a file to be read
 next, type

	./fig2dev/read.c


 Next, be sure to read the README or NOTES file in each directory
 and subdirectory. 


 Edit the top-level Makefile so that BINDIR and MANDIR 
 are defined to suit your site.

 At your prompt, type 

	% make

 to make transfig, fig2dev, and fig2ps2tex.

 Then, type

	% make install

 to place them in your bindir.

 Type

	% make manual

 to produce the manual.dvi file for printing.

 You may also be interested in printing out
 the transfig-tug90.dvi file at the top level.
 It is Micah Beck's and Alex Siegel's "Transfig:
 Portable Graphics for TeX" article written for
 the 1990 TUG meeting held at Texas A&M University
 in June 1990.
