.TH PXTOPK 1L 10/16/86
.SH NAME
pxtopk - convert pixel (pxl) font files to packed format
.SH SYNOPSIS
.B pxtopk
pxl_file_name [pk_file_name]
.SH DESCRIPTION
.I Pxtopk
converts a pixel format file to packed format. Since not all
existing pxl files come from Metafont84, this may be needed
for backwards compatibility.
.PP
The pxl filename on the command line must be complete. Because
the magnification is part of the extension, it would not make
sense to add on a default extension as is done with TeX or
dvi-reading software. The pk file name defaults to the same
root as the gf file, with the `pk' extension replacing `pxl'
and the resolution replacing the magnification. For example,
the input file
.I io.1500pxl
would become
.IR io.300pk .

.SH "AUTHORS"
Tomas Rokicki wrote the program. The program was published as
part of the
.I MetafontWare
technical report, available from Stanford. Paul Richards
ported it to Unix.
