.TH PKTOPX 1L 10/16/86 .SH NAME pktopx - convert packed font files to pixel (pxl) format .SH SYNOPSIS .B pktopx pk_file_name [pxl_file_name] .SH DESCRIPTION .I Pktopx converts a packed font file to the older pixel format. Packed font files are much smaller than the corresponding gf files, and it is rapidly becoming the font format of choice. This program thus exists primarily to be an example of a packed font-reading program, so that device drivers can easily be changed to use the new format. .PP The pk filename on the command line must be complete. Because the resolution is part of the extension, it would not make sense to add on a default extension as is done with TeX or dvi-reading software. The pxl file name defaults to the same root as the gf file, with the `pxl' extension replacing `pk' and the ``magnification'' replacing the resolution. (The magnification is the resolution divided by 200, multiplied by 1,000.) For example, the input file .I io.300pk would become .IR io.1500pxl . .SH "SEE ALSO" mf(1), gftopxl(1), gftopk(1) .br Donald Knuth, .I MetafontWare .SH "AUTHORS" Tomas Rokicki wrote the program. The program was published as part of the .I MetafontWare technical report, available from Stanford. Paul Richards ported it to Unix.
