BSD
These tests were designed by Karels, McKusick and Leffler to mea-
sure the performance improvements between BSD 4.2 and BSD 4.3. We
have slightly modified them for portability and execution time
reasons, but the spirit is still alive: these tests are the syn-
thesis of the resource consuming operations in the Unix operating
system. We compile some source files and we measure the execution
time with several input parameters given by a shell script. There
are tests about system calls (syscall, contswit, signocsw, pipe-
self, pipedis, pipeback, forkes, execs with two arguments bi and
nu) and memory management (seq, gau, ran). These tests are signi-
ficant of the CPU speed, Unix quality and filesystem implementa-
tion, memory management and C compiler performance ; they are re-
presentative of the generic performance and quality of the Unix
implementation.
