This directory contains device drivers which allow you to print DVI files on
various devices.
The ./umd-dvi directory has the widest range of programming in it, and
should be consulted by all sites, whatever their output device. This is
the directory that used to be called ctex. That name makes more sense
in its use in the WEB-to-C system, so I have chosen to honor the University
of Maryland, from which the software originates.

device see directory
--------------- -----------------------------------------------------------
Glass teletypes and line printers
./lpr-viewers/dvitty --- The spacing is unnecessarily wierd.

Apple LaserWriter and other PostScript printers
		./laser-setters/dvi-to-ps/* Several possibilities, which
will eventually merge into one super driver.
			./laser-setters/dvi-to-ps/pdvi2ps is a local
			U. of Washington rewrite of the old dvi2ps
			./laser-setters/dvi-to-ps/ld-dvi2ps is Larry
			Denenberg's version, with ivd-dvi inversion
included in the driver. He now thinks that
the ivd2dvi preprocessor is a better way.

		./obsolete/mitdrivers/dvi2ps --- recent (1988) adjustments for
256-character gf fonts and 600 dpi devices

Dec LN01 or LN01S
		./obsolete/ln01

Dec LN03	./laser-setters/ln03 --- recently upgraded by Matt Thomas.

Imagen 10/240	./obsolete/imagen

Imagen 8/300	./laser-setters/umd-dvi/dev --- read the README file
		in ./laser-setters/umd-dvi
Note the special files for the ATT 3b

./laser-setters/dviimp --- this is written in WEB.

QMS 800, QMS 1200, QMS 2400
./laser-setters/quicspool --- Scott Simpson of TRW has (1988)
completely rewritten the code for QMS and Talaris
printers. README.nr in the ./quicspool directory
gives the full rationale and installation guide.

./obsolete/mitdrivers/dvi2qms --- a device driver for the QMS
printers. MIT says "dvi2qms was written by Chris
Linblad here at MIT after we decided the existent
			dvi->qms filters were not acceptable."

Symbolics LGP-1	./obsolete/symbolics

Versatec or Varian
./laser-setters/umd-dvi/dev --- read the README file
		in ./umd-dvi

dviselect, a program to extract pages out of a dvi file, is in
./laser-setters/umd-dvi/dev
Again, see the README file in ./laser-setters/umd-dvi. Many of the
drivers already perform this function themselves.

In ./laser-setters/umd-dvi/previewers there are programs for dvi display
under both sunviews and X.

In ./laser-setters/umd-dvi/misc there is a font conversion program
makeSunfonts.c to produce Sun vfont format from gf fonts.
