From karl%typo.umb.edu@RELAY.CS.NET Sun Nov 22 22:00:20 1987 Date: Thu, 19 Nov 87 15:44:06 EST From: "Karl Berry." <karl%typo.umb.edu@RELAY.CS.NET> To: mackay@JUNE.CS.WASHINGTON.EDU Subject: pxtogf.l .TH PXTOGF 1L 10/16/86 .SH NAME pxtogf - convert pixel (pxl) format font files to generic font format .SH SYNOPSIS .B pxtogf pxl_file_name gf_file_name .SH DESCRIPTION .I pxtogf converts a pxl format file to a generic font file. Perhaps for on-line previewers, pixel format fonts are still useful because no translation needs to be done on the character to get the bitmap, but gf files are much more compact. .PP Both the pxl and the gf filename on the command line must be complete. Because the resolution is part of the extension, it would not make sense to add on a default extension as is done with TeX or dvi-reading software. Although it would make sense to generate the gf filename automatically from the pxl filename, this isn't done. .SH "SEE ALSO" mf(1), lpr(1) .br Donald Knuth, .I MetafontWare .SH "BUGS" Far too many (virtually all, in fact) device drivers still use pixel format fonts. .SH "AUTHORS" Unknown. Ported to Unix by Karl Berry, who got it from Barbara Beeton at the American Mathematical Society, who got it from someone at Stanford. (Maybe John Hobby?)
