This volume describes the installation and general operation of the PP
software. More details about its history, development and objectives
can be found in {\em PP Manual} introduction pages.
A general overview of PP can be found in the paper in the directory
doc/ifip6.5-88\cite{IFIP.PP}.
A guide to writing programs that interact with PP is given in {\em PP
Volume 2: Programmer's Guide}.
A guide to the user visible parts of PP can be found in {\em PP Volume
