Sorry for being late with the abstract, but your deadline was really very tight. I hope that my abstract will be considered anyway. *nl**np6* Could you arrange that I get some more information about the meeting? *nl* *lm30**nl3* Regards*nl2* Anders Lindgård*nl* H. C. Lindgård H. C. Ørsted Institutet Københavns Universitet Universitetsparken 5 DK-2100 København Ø Denmark *rj* *ld8**ns 1,8,Abstract. * ---------*nl**ld8**np* A multicomputer system with a mediumsize computer as a front end has been designed. In the system a large number of microcomputers in a close-coupled configuration is assigned to be used as con- trollers for peripheral equipment, controllers for local process- control computers and for long term computations in statistical mechanics. The computers communicates and executes control using messages and blocktransfers. Control functions e. g. reset, start and stop are not as usual performed by hardware, but are executed by a short monitorprogram in a read-only store in each computer and initiated by messages. Messages and answers are handled by reference as each central processor may read (but not write) in the store of any other microcomputer. The microcomputers are 24bit mashines each having as a minimum of 8 k words of read only store and 16 k words of random access store. The primary programming languages both for systems programming and applications will be PASCAL and ALGOL. The basic idea in the system is to let any single com- puter handle a welldefined long term task and this is expected to keep the intercommunication at a low level.*nl1* To this system there is attached two hierarchical starnetworks of computers for control of individual experiments in physics and chemistry. One network is based on the 24bit computers and one based on Motorola M6800 computers. The applications include voltametry, spectrometers, oscillatory chemical reactions, beam foil spectroscopy, laser raman spectroscopy etc. *ef* ▶EOF◀
