Dear,
*rj**np*
Just like last year we are a little late in writing christmas letters.
Anyway it is better to do it in march than to forget your friends
completely.
*np*
What has happened this year in Denmark. We have gotten a conservative
primeminister who privately sold a rotten house (rats included) to one of his
party members. He says that we cannot afford to have social welfare,
only tax-deductions.
*np*
Troels is now a very big boy of age 5. His room has changed into a
toy shop, so his parents feel. He newer throws anything out, except
for the 4 dolls he had taken over from Jytte and her sister. (A nice
little male chauvinist). He has changed kindergarten in august and
is in kindergarten in the house next door. A great advantage for his
parents.
*np*
Jytte has got her own firm, but she shares office and secretary with
Dick her former employer. So the change is only financial. She is
very happy about being a practising lawyer. She has just got permission
to to practice for "landsretten" (The court of appeals).
*np*
My work is much the same as last year. I have published 5 papers
and written a new operating system for our computer.
*np*
We finally sold our old house the 15. march. That was a great
relief, not at least to our economy.
The new house has really taken a lot of our time. We have worked
most weekends on the house and I have got a lot of nice equipment
for doing the things fast.
In the summer I used 3 weeks on the roof to insulate the house.
First I had to take the old zinck off. Then the wooden roof
beneatch it had to be taken away. 10 tons of sand was showelled
down and some further wood removed. Then new insulation was put
in (15 to 25 cm), and the wooden roof was put back. I used
10 kg of nails! Then roofing-felt on top of the wood. It was
quite an operation. Fortunately the sun was shining from a
clear sky all 3 weeks. I really got tanned.
*np*After that we went to the island of Mors (in north west
Jutland) for a weeks vacation with the friends we usually
do this with. We ate a lot of mussels and other good things
from the sea. We also tried hard to catch fish but with no
luck. And the sun kept shining from the clear sky. It
was an unusual summer.
*np*
Our chances for going abroad does not look too good. It is
very hard to get travel money theese days, especially for
me who is not backed up by a regular scientific institute.
Next our personal economy is quite week, due to the late
sale of our own house and to Jytte having her own firm.
It will probably take at least a couple of years before
Jytte is so established that our economy will change to
the good.
*np*
Latest news: Another reason for delay.*nl*
Yes, I am leaving the university. I have just got a job as
edp-manager in industry. This will be quite a new world for me,
but I am looking forward to it. (It also increases my wage quite
a bit). It is in a company called CPC Denmark, which is a
submsidary of CPC International a rather big multinational firm
in the corn (on the cob?) bussines. I will start the 5. april.
It will be nice to try something else than university especially
in theese days, whrere money are so tight and they even are
considering firing people.
