s the required subdirectories. If a subdirectory
already exists, you will get the warning, "UNABLE TO CREATE SUBDIRECTORY."
Ignore this warning. It will not affect your software installation.
PATHS
When GEM "boots," a path is appended to any path that exists in
the AUTOEXEC.BAT file. When GEM parses the AUTOEXEC.BAT file,
it is searching for the first occurrence of the string "path" or
"PATH". Therefore, be sure that the command to SET your path is
the first string in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file that contains the
characters "path." Failure to do this will result in an erroneous
path being set for the system.
DEMONSTRATION PROGRAM
The executable versions of the demonstration programs provided on
these disks have been assembled, compiled, and linked using the
following tools:
MASM v1.25
LATTICE (tm) C Compiler v2.14
LINK v3.0
Note that each of the batch files assemble and compile all modules
required for the linking of your application. Once you have
assembled and compiled the bindings you might find it useful to
remove the commands that assemble and compile them each time that
you want to recompile the example applications.
SIDSAMPLE.DOC
The file SIDSAMPLE.DOC is provided as a demonstration of SID in a
debugging session. GEMSID is a version of SID intended to make
use of additional commands specific to the graphics environment.
This file uses the Digital Research (R) tools, RASM-86 (tm) and
LINK-86 (tm). When you use GEMSID you might be using MASM and
LINK since these are the tools for which bindings are provided.
DOCUMENTATION ERRATA
The sample assembly program documented in the GEM VDI Reference
Guide is for use with RASM86. If you are using MASM, refer to
CompuServe for the appropriate version.
