VP/ix VERSION 1.1.0 BUG REPORT LIST =================================== LAST UPDATE: 7/22/88 The file contains a listing of all the known bugs in this release of VP/ix. Please check this list before reporting a problem. All the bugs listed here are in the process of being fixed. Also, those bugs that have been resolved since the previous release are listed at the end of this file. BUG # DESCRIPTION ----- ----------- 0001 You don't get a beep when you do an illegal cursor motion in Lotus 123. BUG # DESCRIPTION ----- ----------- 0002 VP/ix can't run under SHL on serial terminals. The keyboard-display initialization IOCTLs seem to fail. BUG # DESCRIPTION ----- ----------- 0003 In Microsoft Project (on a monochrome system), if you switch to another virtual terminal and back, a cursor gets left on the top left of the screen. Other DOS applications may exhibit similar behavior with "confused cursors" when switching virtual terminals. BUG # DESCRIPTION ----- ----------- 0004 Powermeter has a variety of problems ranging from improper displays to exiting prematurely. BUG # DESCRIPTION ----- ----------- 0005 When using a monochrome monitor with an EGA card set to monochrome mode, entering VP/ix may cause the screen to blank out. BUG # DESCRIPTION ----- ----------- 0006 When you quick-boot VP/ix (vpix -r) or run a DOS command from the UNIX prompt, the date is incorrectly set to the date of your BOOTIMAGE file instead of the current date. The time is correct (the current time). BUG # DESCRIPTION ----- ----------- 0007 DOS applications which use file locking or record locking may not work properly. BUG # DESCRIPTION ----- ----------- 0008 Backspacing in dbase III doesn't erase all characters when run on a serial terminal. Other screen update problems occur on occasion on serial terminals. BUG # DESCRIPTION ----- ----------- 0009 The setup program in Microsoft C version 5.1 blanks the screen and appears to be outputting characters, but they do not appear on the screen. BUG # DESCRIPTION ----- ----------- 0010 Using Procomm, when connecting to some systems, output to the screen is garbled in that many characters are printed twice. BUG # DESCRIPTION ----- ----------- 0011 Serial mice do not work well with Microsoft Windows; VP/ix may exit (with or without an error message) unexpectedly. The Microsoft Inport Bus Mouse works fine with Windows, and serial mice work fine with other DOS applications using the appropriate serial mouse driver supplied with the mouse. ======================================================================== The following problems have been resolved since the previous VP/ix release. The bug numbers refer to their numbers in the README file on that release. BUG # DESCRIPTION ----- ----------- 0002 Procomm (serial communication package) does not hang up on the modem on disconnect. It also cannot keep up with large bursts of data. Other serial communications packages may exhibit similar problems. Resolution: fixed. BUG # DESCRIPTION ----- ----------- 0004 Hitting CTRL and SYSREQ simultaneously on the console when VP/ix is at the DOS prompt locks up VP/ix. Resolution: This is actually the way native DOS behaves, and is thus not a VP/ix problem. If this is done by accident, simply use CTRL-ALT-DEL to reboot VP/ix, or the VP/ix Interface Menu to exit VP/ix. BUG # DESCRIPTION ----- ----------- 0005 A serial mouse does not work with many applications. Resolution: fixed. BUG # DESCRIPTION ----- ----------- 0006 The NU program (Norton Utilities 3.10) will not run under VP/ix. You get various messages such as, "Divide overflow", "Error finding current directory", and "General protection fault, cannot emulate". Resolution: fixed. BUG # DESCRIPTION ----- ----------- 0008 Running Norton Utilities DT (Disk Test), specifying F(ile), causes varied problems. If console and a serial terminal are logged on as different users, and DT is run from the serial terminal, the console will flicker whenever a VT file is read. The serial terminal will hang when it attempts to read file TTYP0, requiring a kill. If both serial terminal and console are logged on as the same user, and DT is run from the serial terminal, when a read of TTYP0 is attempted, the entire system crashes, requiring a restart with On/Off switch. Resolution: fixed. BUG # DESCRIPTION ----- ----------- 0009 If you mount a DOS filesystem on a floppy using DOS FSS, then get into VP/ix, you can't access the floppy as the A drive, as it is busy; this is proper behavior. But if you then switch to another virtual terminal and unmount the floppy and switch back to VP/ix, you still cannot access the floppy drive. Resolution: the UNIX floppy driver now enforces exclusive access to the floppy drive for all UNIX commands. BUG # DESCRIPTION ----- ----------- 0010 On some machines, the DOS command "diskcopy a: a:" will fail on high-density (1.2M) floppies; on the third pass thru the source diskette, read errors occur. Resolution: fixed. BUG # DESCRIPTION ----- ----------- 0011 If a device such as COM1 or A: cannot be opened when VP/ix is started up (for lack of correct permission) there is no error message from VP/ix. When you try to access the device, you get a failure message from DOS. Resolution: fixed. BUG # DESCRIPTION ----- ----------- 0012 Microsoft Word 3.0 does not work on the Z drive (UNIX filesystem). It does work properly on the C pseudo-volume drive. Resolution: fixed. BUG # DESCRIPTION ----- ----------- 0013 On a CGA display, if you run something under VP/ix that scrolls the screen and then switch to another virtual terminal, the VP/ix process is suspended (sleeps) instead of continuing on in the background as it should. Resolution: fixed. The following bugs were not listed in the previous release's README file, but were both reported and fixed subsequent to that release: - Running a DOS command from the UNIX prompt did not work under the C shell (csh). It now does. - The PrintScrn key didn't work. This is now fixed. - Printing to LPT1 output directly to the printer instead of being spooled. This is now fixed. - Quickbooting VP/ix (vpix -r) and switching virtual terminals could hang your VP/ix session. This is now fixed. - Various problems with Hercules display adapters, which should now all be fixed. - The DOS tree command did not work. It now does. - Starting a UNIX shell from the VP/ix Interface Menu used to leave the terminal in a raw state, and /dev/tty was not properly set up. This is fixed. - Quitting from the VP/ix Interface Menu used to leave the cursor wherever it last was, which might have been in the middle of a screenful of stuff. It now refreshes the screen to the way it looked when you entered VP/ix. Quitting using the "quit" command is unchanged.
