vmstat - report statistics on system activity

By default, _v_m_s_t_a_t prints iterative statistics for:
processes, memory usage, traps, disk activity, and cpu
     usage.

_p_u_n_a_m_e Specifies an alphnumeric name of a PU on the sys-
              tem.

----SSSS Print swapped-process information instead of page
reclaims (``re'') and cache hits on freed pages
              (``at'') in default.

----ffff Reports on the number of _f_o_r_ks and _v_f_o_r_ks since
system startup and the number of pages of virtual
memory involved in each kind of fork.

----mmmm Prints statistics on memory usage and swap volume.

----ssss Prints statistics on swapping and paging (the con-
tents of the sum structure) since the system boot.

----tttt Prints time statistics in milliseconds and
microseconds for page reclaims and for page ins.

iiiinnnntttteeeerrrrvvvvaaaallll Specifies in seconds the reporting interval. For
example, vmstat 5 prints system statistics every 5
seconds, which is the sampling interval for some
statistics. Other samplings occur every second (as
shown by running the output for a while).

ccccoooouuuunnnntttt Specifies the number of times to repeat printing
              the statistics.

Procs: information about numbers of processes in various
     states.

     r in the ``run queue''
b blocked for resources (I/O, paging, and others.)
w runnable or ``short sleeper'' (that is, < 20 secs) but swapped

Memory: information about the usage of virtual and real
memory. Virtual pages are considered active if associated
with processes that are running or have run in the last 20
     seconds. Pagesize is 4096 bytes.

     avm active virtual pages
fre size of the free list
re number of unshared page reclaims, where the page was ``stolen'' by the page-
replacement algorithm and reclaimed due to page fault (before reuse)
at number of cache hits on text pages that were freed (by _e_x_e_c or _e_x_i_t for example)
and ``hit'' by a new process

Page: information about page faults and paging activity.
These are averaged each five seconds, and given in units per
     second.

     si swapp-in processes
     so swapped-out processes
     pi paged-in pages
     po paged-out pages
fr pages freed-per-second by the page-replacement (clock) algorithm
de short-term memory requirements to swap in jobs
sr pages scanned-per-second by the page-replacement (clock) algorithm

10/11/20/21: Disk operations per second on disk units 0 to
     3.

Faults: trap/interrupt rate averages per second over last 5
     seconds.

in (nonclock) device interrupts per second
     sy system calls per second
     cs cpu context-switch rate (switches/second)

Cpu: breakdown of percentage usage of CPU time

us user time for normal- and low-priority processes
     sy system time
     id cpu idle
