DISK_MISC

This DFS program provides several miscelaneous functions for model
200 and 300 processor disk subsystems. Some of the functions supplied
rely on disks having been previously fromatted with a recent version
of RECOVERY as later versions of RECOVERY put a date code
footprint on the disk when it is formatted. DISK_MISC can then be used
at some later time to determine when the disk was last initialized.
There are several commands supported by DISK_MISC:

        ANY
        DATE
        LAST_FORMAT
        SCAN_BB
        RE_DEFECTS
        SHOW_DEFECTS_FILE
        WHAT

ANY is a diagnostic tool. It scans the drive looking for any blocks that
have repetative data. Repetative data is defined as a block
(512 words, 16 bit wide each) that has all 512 words the same. As ANY runs,
it displays the location and patterns found for blocks that have
    repetative data.

DATE works like ANY but additionally checks the data to see if it looks
like a valid date code. For blocks that look like date footprints, the
    block and date are displayed.

    LAST_FORMAT (see SCAN_BB below)

SCAN_BB looks at the footprint left in bad blocks only. Bad blocks are only
written by RECOVERY. SCAN_BB loosk at the blocks from the bad_block_table
for a predetermined number of good date footprints. Once this predetermined
threshold is crossed, it announces it's findings.

RE_DEFECTS is a tool that will reconstruct a 'DEFECTS' tape or disk
file by reading the bad block area from the drive. A switch '/KEEP' is
provided to allow the user to specify that the user defects (RETARGETS
in environment context) are to be preserved.

WHAT displays the version of the program.
