Release Note for Rational Access Rev 0.8.0 -- August 20, 1992

This is the last alpha release! Release 0.9.0 (which should be available
to the field in about three weeks) will be the Beta release.
This release contains all the features of the production product.
The major focus of this release was to add interfaces to some of the layered
products (INSIGHT, RPI, RTI, RDF).
From now on, only bug fixes will occur.

Here are the highlights of 0.8.0:

1. Mouse Change

Control-Double Click of the Right mouse button will select the child.

2. Logoff with Dirty Windows

No we don't clean windows, but we will now bring up your dirty windows
when you attempt to logoff, instead of just listing them.
This feature will bring up three windows, so if you have more than three
modified images, you will need to iterate through them by attempting to
logoff again. If you have specified less than three window frames for
your session, only that number will come up, of course.

3. Search and help in Image Palette

The Image Palette now has a neat little widget that allows you to search
for a pattern in your image list.
The Image Palette now has a help button.

4. Help:On Command has been replaced by Help:On Environment.

Instead of requiring the user to remember a command name in order to access
on-line help, we now provide a dialog box that allows you to search through
topic lists and find the command on which you desire help.
The pattern matching capabilities of this dialog box are also made available
for accessing on-line help about Rational Access.

5. "Just Do It" mode (aka "I don't need no stinking dialog box" mode) has
been implemented for the following menu selections:
    FILE:PRINT
    CMVC:ACCEPT CHANGES
    PROGRAM:PROMOTE TO CODED
    PROGRAM:PROMOTE TO INSTALLED
    PROGRAM:PROMOTE TO SOURCE
    PROGRAM:DEMOTE TO INSTALLED
    PROGRAM:DEMOTE TO SOURCE
    PROGRAM:DEMOTE TO ARCHIVED

If you press the meta key simultaneously with clicking one of these menu
selections, the associated dialog box will be bypassed. Remember that
the dialog boxes retain their values after each use, so the parameters
that will be used for a "just do it" invokation will be the same as
when the dialog box was last used.
If there is a subsequent confirmation dialog box, it WILL appear.

6. Menu Changes

We have rearranged the order of some of the menus to provide more logical
groupings, and to move frequent selecections toward the top.
Also we have made the following minor changes to menu names:
JOBS:JOBS was changed to JOBS:SHOW JOBS
JOBS:ALL JOBS was changed to JOBS:SHOW ALL JOBS
TOOLS:FILES was changed to TOOLS:FILES INFO
TOOLS:FILES INFO:SHOW LOCKS was changed to LOCKS
TOOLS:SYSTEM was changed to TOOLS:SYSTEM INFO
Finally, we have changed the mnemonic for TOOLS:MACRO from "C" to "A".
If you have any user-defined buttons using this menu item they will have
   to be recreated.

7. Keymap Changes
We made several (final!) keymap changes based on user feedback.
The first change was in response to the requests for a key bound to
common.edit and the confusion between that and the "edit" key (F2).
In reality, F2 is bound to the FILE:OPEN menu selection and has been
renamed the "open" key. Shift-F2 is now bound to common.edit and is
named the "edit" key. Demote was moved from Shift-F2 to Shift-F8, and
we lost Promote_to_coded as a keybinding (ye olde shift-F8).

The following keymap changes were mostly motivated by requests to be
compatible with most other R1000 keymaps. Our apologies to the EMACS lovers
out there who have lost some EMACS compatibility in favor of Rational
   compatibility.
Word <LowerCase, UpperCase, Capitalize> have been moved from
   Control-<key> to Meta-<key>

We added five keymappings that insert commonly used symbol sequences.
   control ; or: inserts :=
   control ( inserts ("
   control ) inserts ")
   control = or + inserts =>
   control | inserts --|

We have added keymappings to next Underline (meta = or +)
and to prev underline (meta - or _)
This caused us to move "Bind Macro to Key"
   from (meta = or +) to (control+meta = or +)

Window <Larger, Smaller, and Directory> were moved
from control+meta-<key> to simply control-<key>, with smaller moving
from key = ) to the traditional . or >

finally, we added the binding to Begining of Image and End of Image to
   Shift-<Page Up, Page Down) respectively.

8. Layered Products

Last but not least, we have added menu operations for four layered products.
   INSIGHT
   RDF
   RPI
   RTI

   Try them, you'll like them.

9. Bugs fixed

Several minor bugs were fixed such as typos in dialog boxes and widget
   size complaints.
The only noteable bug fixed was that Replace (without Search) now works.
