Syntaksen er således:

     d      er drive nummer (A eller B).
     ny     det nye filnavn (max. 8 karakterer).
     gammel det gamle filnavn.
     typ    filtypen.  De  to  filtyper  behøver ikke  at  være  ens  (max.  3 
            karakterer).

Eksempler:

     REN NYFIL.DAT=GAMMEL.INP
     REN B:NY.DAT=GAMMEL.DAT
     REN LISTE=GAMMEL
